Because I thought it sounded like 'good' money and i ignored that nagging little voice of common sense in my subconscience? :) and I thought I could deal with it? When I started and was all starry-eyed , I think it woulda been cool to have someone reaffirm what that little voice was sayin. So, not meaning to be abrasive, just thought maybe someone would be as interested in the discussion as I would have been .. Carry on ;-)

Swift is doing much better. All the miles I can handle, and even dedicated routes I can get on to get me home for 34's. Dm's are easy to work with on a you prove yourself, and basically if you can trip plan, and not hit anything, you're going to make money. Every once in a while I run into someone who says they only got paid 400 for the week. Do you realize how bad you have to #### up in order to only get a 400 paycheck? I have no sympathy for those fools. With 18,000 drivers out here, yes there are idiots, yes some of them are only getting $400 checks. But they are well on their way to washing out. Yes you will see seift drivers doing dumb ####, but the vast majority of us are doing fine. If you have an iq slightly higher than that of a corpse you will be able to do well.

I started at swift and made .25cpm. I put in the 1.5 yr before moving on. I worked for a swift O/O who was an Illegal from Mexico -- I had to contain myself numerous, numerous times (my personal politics) in exchange for experience. Looking back, I would NOT want a truck that wasn't governed 62, and I DON'T care how many of you harassed me while i was stuck in the passing lane because there was a car going 50 mph.

Although I frequently bash swift, thats only because they are Cheap, I do respect their approach to training new drivers. SO, no you're wrong, swift is not the bottom bigdogpile....

First day of orientation in the books at Greer. Boring day but then our class instructor is a true professional and made it as interesting as possible
Basically the drug screen and physicals if needed. Swift does provide lunch from a local restaurant. Lunch was good just wish I had more ketchup. Tomorrow is supposed to be a tighter schedule. Small group due to holiday this week, just ten of us. I guess we'll see by late tomorrow if any disappears when results from today are returned. Will be interesting to see if mentors are present New Year's Eve. I'm enjoying this part of the journey but looking forward to actually hitting the road.
Btw any of you Swift veterans reading, can you tell me the qualifications to be able to access the mac 30's

Platinum status. Based on mileage and lack of service failures. Your Driver Development Coordinator will go over rankings during orientation.

It's all good. It just takes time. If you can drive, you'll do fine. Back as often as you can. The more complex the back the better. You'll go crazy when you're out with your mentor, wanting to go solo, but your first solo load most likely you'll miss having that second set of eyes with you. Then just go from there. After a few months you'll look at your own progress and be pleased. Just set new goals and attain them.
