Hello everyone!
After a bit of research I have decided to go with swift for my cdl training. I have done my research and I believe Swift would be a great company for me to start with. One concern I have however is that it looks like Swift does not hire on until after you complete the driving school. This worries me as I do not wish to owe swift thousands of dollars if they ultimately will not give me a job.
A little background have no concerns with drug test, no criminal history, no traffic violations...not even a traffic or speeding ticket in my life, no accidents. I AM a very large guy, however I do have a two year dot card, as well as my permit with all endorsements (except hazmat of course that is a work in progress).
Perhaps I am a bit skittish as I attended an orientation for Knight (squire transportation) made it to the third day where I was told I was passed on by safety. They could not elaborate more than that.
I guess I am looking for anyone who has experiences either way, or what they saw in their classes. Thanks in advance.
Looking to attend Swift Cdl training.

I saw lots of very large guys at Swift.
They will have their own doc give you a physical anyway.
Get lots of sleep the night before. It helps to be relaxed. -
I was trained by Swift 2 years ago in Corsicana Texas. When I completed training I contacted my recruiter and let him know when I wanted to attend orientation.
As long as you pass the road test at orientation after getting past your cdl driving test at dmv after training they more than likely will hire you on.
You said you were a big guy. Hopefully that doesn't keep you from getting on. I'm sure a lot has changed with them since I left but you may have a shot to start.
Having a 2 year DOT card has to be from their approved offices so when you attend class make sure you have extra cash or debit card so that you have walmart money as well as any expenses like paying a third party tester to test you/ dmv costs for cdl license.
Good luck! -
from what you posted...dont seem you should have any problems as long as you pass the school. you will do another physical at oreintation if notdone by an swift approve clinic or if med card over 6 months old. good luck

I just graduated from the Swift Lewiston, ID Academy. Two days ago. Money is everyone's biggest issue. Along with not having the proper information. Prior to getting there. I am from Washington and our exams are all different. First complete all online classes swift gives you. Then get your combination test, Air Brakes, and general knowledge completed at the DMV. Also you need you're DOT Physical done. This is where you receive you're DOT card. All of this is needed before you get you're permit issued. DMV will tell you all you need is to pass you're general Knowledge test. Wrong!! Swift requires all of the above. Then you been $100.00 for you're state exam. Bring $200.00 in case you fail. Also when you pass and get you're CDL you are going to need a maximum of $120.00 to change you're license over. I was comfortable with about $800.00, but spent a little over $1000.00. I gave away a little over $200.00 to help out other people. I had a great experience while I was there. The instructors were great. I passed and got my CDL in 3 week's. Safety is a huge deal. If you are not safe and do not practice safety. You get a one way ticket out. Good luck and hope I was able to help.

I went to the Swift Academy in Richmond Va, it is not the cake walk the super truckers on here will make it out to be. The class i was in and the class the week ahead of me had a total of 50 students, 10 passed from the 2 classes.
As long as you have nothing bad in your driving history or anything that would preclude you from getting highered they will higher you once you get your CDL. -
With any school you attend, you will have to pay them for the training.
And there is NO school that can promise you a job after attending.
That point is moot.
As with any school, if you get your CDL you move on to the next step in the hiring process.
But you are never actually hired before the employment and background and drug checks are complete. -
They have had problems in the passed, but it seems they have moved passed that.
I dare anyone... -
I also know the Richmond Academy is the hardest school to graduate out of on top of it having the safest drivers once they do graduate, it something like 88% of the drivers that come out of Richmond are accident free their first year.
I know i graduated from there and within 6 weeks i became a platnium driver with the miles i have run. -
