Hello all! I've been lurking for months, reading your posts and relearning the industry. I have to say I have learned a lot just reading the posts here on the forum! Thank you :)

A little background - my husband drove OTR until 2001 - actually after 9/11/01 he decided we needed him home more than gone. Fast forward to 2014 and he's back driving OTR as a company driver for Swift. Last time he was driving our kids were young and I didn't have the internet (or much time) to study the trends, industry, etc....

So, my question is this - other than reading about drivers scattered across the country waiting on loads, is there a way to tell where freight is heavy, and where it is slow? Just trying to make sure I understand the trends correctly.

Thanks again everyone. Safe travels to you all.

there's a flatscreen in most terminal that show a map of u.s.. there on the map is displayed a bunch of bubbles(red or green) red means more drivers than loads(slow freight
) and green means more freight than drivers(a lot of freight) in that specific region where bullble is on. the bigger the bubble, the bigger the number. hope this helps

There are websites for load boards and such where you can get that information. I think most are subscription based but may have some features. DAT is one of them. Won't do much good if your husband is a company driver. He has to go where his company says to go to.

Thanks. Yeah, as a company driver he goes where he's directed to go, just wondering if there is a region that has more freight than others. I'm sure everyone prefers to be in the southern states where the weather is better, but he hasn't turned down a load yet.

Sadly after the holiday rush January into February are slow for everyone. It would be cool to be able to go to the Swift website, or Driver Portal and see the bubble map, but even command is quiet. Of course I'll call Steve in 30 minutes and get an update. I know I just saw him but deep down the right load brings him back home through Phx.
