Any chance there is anyone here who is on this account? This is one of 3 job offers I've received and I"m trying to figure out if it's a decent gig, the recruiter did a good job selling it.

Curious about start times, length of days, and if it's a slip seat. My recruiter told me to plan on 12 hour days and start times are either AM or PM. Well, that leaves a lot of wiggle room. My recruiter also told me that it was a M-F position with some saturdays. How often is "some" saturdays. I've had jobs like that and they turn into every saturday.

Also I do see a lot of swift day cabs running around the area (Joliet, IL) is there a better paying dedicated run that I could try and get on once I'm on board?

    Thanks
    Joe

I don't know anything about Swift's deal w/ Costco but I've been in there several times and it's a very good receiver. Top notch.

There are LOTS of dedicated options in Chicagoland on the swift dry side. Costco. Chep pallet fleet. Intermodal. And a couple other ones.

Okay thank you guys. I've decided I'm going to go ahead and at least attend orientation and see how that goes. Hope it's everything they say it is.

I'm on Costco. I'm happy with it. It's more than just Costco though. It's GLR (Great Lakes Regional). Most of the runs are Costco, but you will run other freight as well. The one thing about this account is that you have to be absolutely perfect. No accidents or service failures or you get kicked off the account. And they do pay for the best drivers.

There isnt a set schedule or start and stop time. You're a truck driver, not flippin burgers somewhere. It's just like running otr, except that you have a dedicated customer. You pick up at their warehouse and deliver to one of a variety of stores, or hauling whatever other freight is available. The important thing is to make sure you deliver ontime, whatever you are hauling. As far as weekends, it's typically a 5.5 day schedule, if you want to be home on Saturday, set your home time for Saturday and they will get you home on Saturday. Or Friday, or Monday, or whatever day you set your home time for. You can get home every weekend if you want or you can stay out as long as you want and they will work you through the weekend if you choose to. All you have to do is let them know.

Miles are generally good. Sometimes you will get some short loads, but don't sweat it. Just run it and move on to the next load. I've got 2800 miles this week and most of those were around 200 miles at a time. Just do your job, keep the truck moving and if there is a problem call your DM. That's what they are there for.

Humm.... It sounds to me like they are offering me a different position. As I would never sign up for being out from home.

    What I've been told is....

there are two 12 hour shifts AM and PM, which is why I asked what the start times are, it sounds like it's a slip seat truck but recruiter was sure, nor did he know what the shift hours were.

Average mileage is 400-800 miles per week

Drive a day cab, so there is no chance of staying out

Pay is salary set amount per day, plus weekly bonus for accident / incident / on time delivery. Bonus changes depending on how many miles you drive, and starts at 500 miles.

If they even try and assign me a sleeper I'm walking.

Yeah, that's a different assignment than what I do. You would be a local driver, based on what you are saying. I have seen a few day cabs in there, but as far as what they do (other than delivering freight of course) I have no idea. I have a sleeper truck, I stay out for a couple weeks, run just like OTR only in a shorter area, make good money. But I don't have a set schedule to run by, just whatever my clock allows. Good luck to you. Hope it works out.

    joeduno Thanks this.

Okay cool. At least you have seen day cabs in there, I was starting to get worried. There are just to many horror stories about companies doing a bait and switch with a local job.

Do you know what terminal you will be based out of? Gary or Manteno? I think the Costco account is actually based out of Manteno, but I'm out of the Gary terminal. I've been to Manteno a few times. It's small and out of the way, but that is about all I know. Couldn't really tell you what the people are like. Gary is small and cluttered, parking absolutely sucks sometimes, but the people there are pretty nice and good to work with. I've never really been given the runaround if I've had a problem.

Best advice I could probably give is just be nice and courteous. Treat them how you want to be treated and you will get the same in return. If there is any kind of problem, don't go off with any kind of righteous attitude. Treat them with respect and they will bend over backwards for you. Trust me, it works. If you need anything, just let me know.

I've been told I'll be based out of the Costco warehouse in Morris. I live near I-55 and I-80 so that is a quick drive to work every morning. It's good to know though that the Gary terminal is nice people.

Thanks for the heads up, if I have any questions I'll message you. Drive safe.
