So today I got my mentor and spoke over the phone with him and he seems like a nice guy. I'll meet him tomorrow to start my training but he told me he does port to port, so he must have a twic card but can I go to those places if I don't have a twic card? Also will I get the full experience of an otr driver and get trained properly?

Yes but you will be spending some time at shack till driver is load or unload, get the app. to get card started thur. so you can show you are in the system with TWIX card.

So unless you are planning to do port work (a pain in the backside from all angles) don't even worry about it.

You can get plenty of miles without a TWIC, even without HM. They are both a pain, in more ways than one.

I am not planning on getting a twic card, I was just wondering if I would be able to go to the port since my mentor has a twic card and does port to port. From I understand I can from your replies. Right? lol

Also will this set me up right before I go solo and on my own. Will I still be learning things as a otr person not doing twic stuff with my mentor? I am planning on doing dry van /reefer after I am solo

Yea pretty much same mius the wait time at the ports and finding a good chassis. Not sure how it's done out of Phoenix, when I was dedicated fruit of loom I ran out of New Orleans, LA port and Gulfport, MS port. And we would go to Savannah, GA god I hated Savannah port. But I have not renewed my Twic card too much of a PITA the ports well Gulfport was not bad.

Thanks for your reply, I was worried I would not get the same training as others ( people without twic card ). I don't Plan on getting it. I want to do dry/reefer. So as long the training is the same.

I still want to go to different states and learn how to drive mountains and stuff like that. I want to learn everything before I go solo.

You can always request another mentor.

I would, if my mentor primarily ran routes and conditions that I would not be.

Seems odd using a port driver as a mentor .. Don't most do more waiting in line than actual driving

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
