The new Qualcomm update

A21CAV, thanks for the info on how to get the speed alerts turned off. I'll try it out tomorrow. Several times today the speed limit was wrong in the system. It's annoying.

Moosetek, I hear you regarding pacing yourself and getting plenty of rest. That's important. From my perspective those times of having an opportunity to rest when driving OTR come more often than not when you have an appointment for pickup or delivery and you are there early, or for whatever reason you aren't on a schedule that requires "pedal to the metal". However, generally speaking when I'm feeling good and have available hours and miles to run I like to be moving. The reason is that there WILL be those days that you don't get miles, so if you can maximize miles on days when you can then your average will increase.

 

If the speed alerts are part of the QC GPS system, well, it also happens with every other GPS system out there.
I get that using my Rand 520.
There is an option in settings to change the warning level or turn it off. Mine is set for 5 over the limit.

No GPS system has all the correct MPH for every road because they change often. There will always be mistakes.
That's why you have to READ the road signs, even if you are using GPS.

Just like watching the roads and routes a GPS may try to send you on.
Many times it is not safe, or legal. Sometimes it is just plain stupid, adding miles because it doesn't know that you can simply turn left into the truck stop instead of making a long detour.

I know, it is a real pain in the backside when tech isn't 100% accurate or reliable.
But, that is why we have our OWN brain!

 

i set my rand to say something when i break 65 so i do not get and over speed according to swift. When i am not on the interstate i rarely do much if any over the speed limit.
I have had the Qualcomm and my Rand 720 be as far as 40 miles different going to the same place, just always check everything before you blindly follow either of them

 

In Navigation main menu select Settings then Directions. The last item in the Directions menu is voice alert, either on or off.

The workaround is that you go to the 4th item, then zoom out on the image. Then you can down arrow to the next item and you have to zoom out, etc. etc. PIA but that's the only way to see the complete series of directions.

 

Not entirely true. If you wait 1.5 - 2 seconds each time you push the down arrow then it will scroll down through the steps. Pushing the down arrow any faster than that and it will shortcut to the last step same with the up arrow (only reverse).

 

But... that requires patience...

 

I guess we are not all cut out to be doctors.

 

I haven't heard this speeding thing yet, but I drive like a snail anyway. And boy are those arrows up/down to review the route steps in navigation annoying as heck, I was really hoping they would fix this.
