Yeah, SWIFT says be prepared for 4 per room. However, if your on the Veteran Scholarship...they also forgive the $500 housing fee after 12-months.

Part of Swifts program let's you get you're own room and swift will pay 500 towards it which you will pay back over 13 months. The recruiter should give you the details for it. When I went I had 3 roommates at first. After the first week 2 graduated. Each week after the two new roomates we would get were gone the first day, so 66% of the time I shared a room with someone who turned out to be a great friend, and we still stay in contact.

If you choose to get your own room just study with others on the days when you need to. The only time it will be necessary will be for pretrip testing days.

It seems whenever I'm at the dock of a store rather than a DC someone will ask about getting there cdl and Swifts process. I've started telling them that I'm an introvert so it'd been perfect for me, but out of everyone in my graduating class I'm the last working for swift. One other is working for another company, and the rest quit driving.

If you can, find a way to test out this life before signing a contract. It will be in your best interest.

    Good luck with everything.

I'll put it this way...the school teaches you basically how to get your cdl...you will learn the real job once you get with a road trainer hauling actual loads...but don't hesitate to ask questions because the only dumb question is the one you don't ask....good luck..

Yeah, I got confused and thought moosetek was the OP. My bad moosetek13, thought you were a newbie calling trucking easy.
Anyway, as one of Swifts most veteran employees with 1 year of experience (I say that only kinda joking) the message could be for anyone, but I'll be sure to edit it to be more friendly.

When I went, for the 2nd through the 16th of feb. I had two roommates besides me, I had decent roommates. My roommate Greg was in my class and the other roommate was a hold back on his third dmv try. He hit a curb on his road test and left after the first week. So it was me and one guy in my class for the rest of the time until we got our travel info on saturday. Then I had one night by myself until sunday is always roommate day. New roommates get assigned to random rooms, first week we lucked out, second week as I was about to leave I got three. Which was expected since I was the only one there. They seemed decent enough and I tried to give them the help I could on what to expect and made sure they had all the paperwork they would need to not get sent home

It also depends on the school that you attend. I had one student that went to PHX and was not taught alley dock because it is not required for a CDL in AZ. Lewiston teaches you alley dock because it is required there along with OH. It is part of the test. The one student that I had out of PHX was told not to worry, it was my job to teach. Not even the basics.

This is correct. Millington is the same way, the instructors teach for your state specific test. However, most of the time if you have an easy test and can skills test out early, you can get in rotation for practice on the 90 or other area skills. I suggest doing this. I am GA, so we had the most skills out of anyone there, 7. At millington the instructors will not discourage you from learning other skills and all you have to do is ask to be present for the demo. However, they will expect you to take the initiative, and they will help you if you have questions. But swift's timetable for training doesn't allow for everyone to learn every skill.

Wow, swift does it A LOT different than central did it when I went two years ago. I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket except for my license fee for Utah ($60?) and food of course. First week you stayed in the on site bunk room with one other person. second and third week you stayed in a hotel with one other person.

schooling for non-vets was $3,000. Each week you were with the company they took 57.69 out of your check, but then they put half of that back in the same check. So if you stayed with them for 12 months, you only paid $1,500. $1500 for CDL schooling, seems pretty good to me.

but wow, $500 for housing, thats insane. Especially since its a tax write off for swift, and they're more than likely getting money from the government to begin with.
