I am in my early 20s (ok, 38 but really, who's paying attention?) and I have a Garmin dezl, but I use that atlas just to make sure. Garmin gets retarded from time to time.

Is that a trucking specific unit? I've been primarily looking at the Rand McNally truck specific units.

Yes. It's a 560 dezl. Truck specific. I tried the RM and it was a POS. That was 3 years ago though.

I have the Garmin Dezl 760 and have been pleased with its performance and has helped a lot but it can not replace the brain and atlas. I would suggest looking into the gps later on after finishing school and getting with your trainer that is when you will be able to test it and see the mistakes it makes and why you still need that atlas!!! LOL

Don't forget that if you are coming to Swift, there is a GPS built into the qualcom. I mention this ONLY to advise you to save money now by not buying a GPS until you are out here a little while. The atlas is a must have, the GPS can wait for now. Also I am not giving an endorsement for the Q/C navigation system, only stating that it is there. I preferred my Rand over the Q/C.

I know how to use a map, its the first thing I use when I get a load. if I have a hard time trying to find the particular place I will pull out my tablet and look up the address so I can get a better view of whats in the area, then I get my map to look how to get there.

I have given thought to "selling out" and getting a GPS, but I don't have the kind of money to get a GPS, and I've lasted this long without one
