One of the few things on my list of things to bring...is a binder....are they talking a log/permit book or just a standard 3-ring binder :? vinyl-snap-shut-log-book-cover-1-rvn-500.jpg zip-up-vinyl-log-book-cover-with-calculator-751-rvn-500.jpg

3 ring binder, Actually you just need paper to take notes with. 3 hole to fit the binder would work. Take a fine point black pen to work on your paper logs. You won't need the log/permit book.

The calculator is a good idea too.

I used the white tape. Less messier. DOT had no issues with it.

I'm assuming that you are talking about use during training. A three ring zipper binder would be about perfect. Also, have a hole punch. Your log sheets will likely be copies, and not have holes punched in them. I used a spiral notebook (single subject from the dollar store) for my notes, which fit inside my binder when I was out on the range.

Forget correction tape/juice. For logging class, corrections are not allowed.
