Well, I finally got my CDL on the third try. Got orientation in Greer on Monday.

Had to do my pre-trip this morning in rain and mud. I was filthy and wet after, but I scored 97 out of 107. Aced the forward stop, straight line back and serpentine. So I had lots of room for error on the 90 degree alley dock. Managed to not hit the barrier like I did the first 2 times. Only took 5 points. Then I nailed the road test.

I was happy to do the road course in the rain. Gave me an excuse to go slow. Only went over 35 mph once.

It was a hell of a journey, and now I finally get to go on the road.

What everybody said, and remember in the dizzying cluster of endless (what day is it, where am I) training hours to come back and update us on your experience. I don't think that I really posted anything here for six months, I was very focused during that time. I hope you will, too, stay focused and never once accept the notion that new drivers make mistakes. Tell yourself, there's no reason to ever have an accident if you are paying close attention to everything going on around you. If that isn't enough, how about this one for example. I have no kids, but I help support several families...if you took my bumper off or sent me to the shop for a week, maybe longer, it would cause me extreme pain. That could be any driver. Think of that any time you maneuver around a truck or back in a spot next to one.....I sure do, and it has served me well.
3 years, 300k+ mile driver with a perfect record is challenging you here! Also...don't take a darn mean thing to heart that you will hear out there. If you hear anything, just stick to yourself and be assured that even truck drivers have issues...in fact, you are going to see another side of people all around, and may not like it...but be proud of yourself and take professionalism seriously, and the good people out here will spot you from the crowd. ;^)

    Good luck, driver!
