I see what you mean. I was attempting to be diplomatic... but it was late and I was fired up after suddenly there were all these concerns about a deal that seemed pretty straight forward. Didn't really give it the second look... I just toned it down.

And I do have a tendency to get fired up about Veteran issues. Both my Grandfathers served, my mothers father 30 years with great décor.
It started when I was 7, and she caught me a some friends sewing authentic military patches to our camo and green shirts... A friends older brother had purchased a big bag of random patches from Army/Navy store. She was not allowing any of that, and we all got the first lecture on Military Honors and Respect. And every year since a trip to a cemetery and viewing of a related film each Veterans and Memorial Day. There was also a lecture each year until I was on active duty.

My time just managed to fall between the madness and I am thankful. Now seeing all these folks returning home with real issues and the struggles we as a nation are having in providing relief..... only drives home everything that was instilled in my youth. While I have always understood and honored, its the past 10 years or so that it has been felt.

My real issue is not that I may lose... but that the company may be misrepresenting its involvement or commitment.

You are helping to ease my concerns, and will make the call tomorrow, and edit the post to reflect.
If everything does in fact turn out to get legit, certainly they deserve the recognition.

These forums do have a way of really making a person skeptical. The underlying theme tends to be... if something appears to be good there is a catch, or it is in fact 'to good to be true'

I feel like I have a great cry baby filter.... that is why I would have no trouble at all going to work for Swift if they are in fact doing this deal. I think its safe to say they are forum leader in negative post.

I've been lurking around for awhile now... I totally expected any number of posts with irrelevant garbage, if it would just fish out that one I was hoping for. Yours is not exactly it, but enough for me to pick up the phone and trust what I hear.

Here is a consideration for you to think about. You are close enough that you can go to the terminal and sit down with them in person and get a feel. You are also close enough to go to the Academy and get a real feel. Also you can elect to walk out after you get to the Academy if all of a sudden they want you to sign something that you where not told about. I did notice that the only difference in the ad was if you are vet or reserve. Like A21CAV said, does not hurt to make that phone call. Personally if it was me, I would go in person so I can see the face of the person that I am talking to.

    Frank,

If I didn't know better I'd say that you were still bitter.

    Not that I blame you!

When I found out about the $1000 discount for vets (well after I attended) I call the school in Phoenix and was told that I qualified. I had my wife fax a copy of my DD214 and $1000 disappeared from what I owed Swift.

Steve , I'm not bitter but you can bet your ### I'm still and will always be angry over it but its something I can function "normally" enough with . I will always believe the great Silent Majority were weak willed cowards led by the great apologist , Walter Cronkite .

    Frank,

I wouldn't blame you if you were bitter. What this country did to the Vietnam vets is a disgrace. I commend you for your service.

It's funny, I'm reluctant to identify myself as a vet because I served in a "peace time army" (1978-82).

My daughter is a combat veteran of Iraq. She served 15 months in Baghdad as a MP. I'm VERY proud of her.

I gotta say guys the verdict is still out.

Coming here turns out to be the best thing I did.

Because of the feedback from you fine folks, I am inclined to chalk this up to a rookie mistake.
But still have yet to receive confirmation on it.

This is the quote verbal, and then via email.

The first issue is how FREE plays into a reimbursement.

The second issue is of course... how does 12 months play into the program.

And the third claiming 100% at month 13. Clearly 100% is at month 26.

Because of the feedback here, I'm hoping for recruiter error... and have a guy from the VA work center making some calls to get confirmation.

I am posting only the program details from the email, because the recruiter was very very good. And if its a legit mistake they should not take heat for it.
So good in fact... it would have lead me even more toward feeling double talked.

In good faith I am still moving forward in the process.

Here is how it was stated and typed:

    **VETERANS-- TUITION

    WAIVED- 1 yr

    commitment--FAX DD214 TO 602 442 9835

    Tuiton is $3900,

    $0 down,

U simply drive with our Team and each wk we will deduct
    $

    37.50 wk for

13 mos, so if u stay with our Team for 13 mos then your

    Tuition will be

    paid off.

    After 13 mos, Swift will

    reimburse

you 100%, we will put $37.50 back into your pay check for
    an

    additional

    13 mos.

Veterans and spouse of trucker, free of charge...good program! Someone beat me to it, this trucking industry is full of people who washed out, lacked intelligence, those who dream of driving and spend all their spare time on trucking forums BUT don't have the balls to try becoming one, and even some who lie about being a truck driver. I have seen so many fakes out here. Be very careful what you read...go to the source. I hope you do, and find out their tuition is free, as it #### well better should be for our veterans. Feel free to report your findings here!

Oh my god....just read your post above mine. That is disgusting to me that they'd even charge. That's the same deal they offer any ol' Joe from the street!!! You could look at it also like a two-year contract...shame.
