Like HousTank, I run weeks at a time on recap. For those that might say that means you "run and gun" for weeks at a time, that's not true. There's ALWAYS going to be light days that have plenty of opportunity to relax, especially when you are running on recaps. Like today, I began the day with only 4:41 on my 70, made a live unload delivery, and drove 100 miles to get to a live load hours early. Now I'm kicking back for a few hours, waiting for a call to the dock. Other days I might be running hard for 600+ miles to get in place for an appointment the next morning, and knock off 12-20 hours in advance of when I'll need to start my next pretrip.
The thing is, if I HAVE hours and miles available to run TODAY, then I run it. The only times I cut a day short are for strategic reasons, like shutting down to avoid rush hour traffic in a metro area. I'm "selling my 70" and want to run during the most efficient times and most efficient routes to make my pick ups and deliveries.
I like to take care of showers and shopping during my 30 minute breaks whenever possible, in order to "untether" myself from having to stay at truck stops or take a 10 at a Walmart or other grocery store. That way I'm able to take a 10 anywhere I can legally park.
Regarding the changes in the 34 hour reset, I'm glad that the opportunity is always there to take one whenever it becomes available. Sometimes I'll change my schedule if I'm just a few hours shy of getting a 34, like call a customer and see if I can be a few hours later, in order to snag a 34 and fresh 70 if my recap hours are going to be thin.Starboyjim Thanks this. -
Me my too, running on the recap, wheels rolling every day. I own my truck, home 5-8 days after 3-4 weeks out. I am 71, plenty of horsepower, I just want to relax when I want to relax. About time to spool some new 8lb mono on the new Shimano and go after those trophy Brownies in the White river.

Mac 9 is the macro to accept or reject a preplan.
There are 3 options.
1. Yes
2. No - and you would enter a reason in the space provided.
3. Counter - with this option you can enter a new pick up and/or delivery time to better suit your needs. If the times are within the customers time windows the plan will be sent back to you with your new times.
Mac 22 is used to inform Swift that you are going to be late for a pick up or delivery.
Mac 34 is used to update your ETA or PTA times.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Pay attention to the "bubble maps", they are in the DM/Planning area of many terminals. Big flat screen maps of the US with either green or red bubbles for each planning area. Red bubbles are when there are more trucks available than loads, green bubbles mean there are more loads than trucks. The bigger the bubble the bigger the disparity. The map changes constantly as loads are assigned and new loads are ordered. Pay attention to changes in freight availability and try to get to the green areas if you have a choice, like if you have Platinum status and can choose from up to three loads... or if you want to game the system and put in a home time request at a zip code where freight is hot and then cancel the home time request once you get a load in that direction. -
But Mac 34 does not always work. I had plenty of loads that where drop with a window and no matter how many times that I would try and do a MAC 34 to show me dropping almost 12 hours early, it would not change my PTA, and on those, not even my DM could change that. They were mostly always Wal-Mart loads
