Ahh...Roadway, I miss the 8v92 2-ton Chevy dumpbed. That motor was tough and never let us down once on hay deliveries or in the field. Had two of them...a Chevy & GMC. I learned to use a splitter on those trucks! :^D

I got off my intented post. My son just started with Swift. Started pullinf dryvan, one week later reefer, and one week.after that got in flatbed. He still wants his cake and eat it too. Swift has given him everything he wanted. Took 2 mentors. He told them straight up not to bug him about being amentor, or Ol or OO as he is not interested. Already got into it with his DL for dumping a Diamond Mentor. Ino sooner finished flatbed training, hecwas ready to go apply with some other company as he says Swift sucks. I expect his time at Swift will be short lived. He wants experienced wages for newbie experience and its not going to happen. I think a year or two for the right person with Swift and you can make money, as they have the freight, but whinning and bellyacheing will not cut it at any company. His latest complaint is he had a 2014 Cascadia Evol. And they took it and gave him a 2012 Cascadia, which has a longer wheelbase but smaller cab area. He just doesnot understand why. Duh. The shorter wheelbase does not have room for a headache rack. If he doesnot make it far with Swift I would not be surprised, but its certainly not due to Swifts fault. He has always had great runs. Very little down time between loads in both dry and reefer. J guess some are cut out for trucking, to others its a fantasy and to others its just a big mistake to have taken others time when your never going to be satisfied.

I work for swift i do my job and move freight, i am never late. They just gave me a 2016 KW t680 and i get 2800-3200 miles a week. You can make money at swift if you just do your job, many just want to be lazy and pull like 2200 miles a week and bring hole 1000+ bucks a week and that will never happen for a new driver anywhere,

My dad drove for CF both out of Tonawanda, NY terminal and later on Big Flats, NY (Elmira) terminal. Pulled pups. He eventually got into an overnight run, M-F from Big Flats to Buffalo and back every day. He retired in around 1992.

I don't get why everyone hates on Swift so much. They have what, like 6000+ drivers right? It isn't that they are particularly lax on hiring, and it isn't that Swift drivers are particularly bad.

When you have that many Swift logos floating around you're bound to have some accidents, it's just a part of driving. It happens. You can have 10 million safe miles, that doesn't mean you can't have an accident. Yes some of them are bad drivers, but we all were when we started, whether we want to admit it or not. I saw a Walmart driver two weeks ago with his foot out the window, on his cellphone and smoking at the same time. He had two million safe miles.

Take that for what it's worth. Mini rant aside, that guy was dumb, especially since he left the scene of an accident. He just went from having a minor reportable to a potential year in Jail.

Years ago one of my first supervisors told me that for every ten employees you have you can count on the following: 1 or 2 will be outstanding, 2 or 3 will be very good, 2 or 3 will be good, 2 will be average and there will always be one that you have to keep an eye on, and that last employee will cause 90% of your headaches. Over the years I have found that these numbers tend to be pretty close.

Swift is the largest trucking company in the U.S., but there are well over a million drivers.
    .
How is 20,000 excessive? It's a drop in the bucket.
    Well, maybe a glassful.

Should they fire some of us then? To get down to a non-excessive level that is.
