West Valley, UT fuel question

    In order to get fuel at the terminal at West Valley, UT do you need to go through the inspection lanes?

    Yes you do. This is why I always go to the nearby Love's and reopt my fuel if I have no other reason to go to the terminal.

    I avoid fueling at terminals at all costs.
    No shower credits, no points.
    And if it one that makes me go through inspection, all the more reason. The timing of my plans do not include an extra hour or more for that nonsense.

    West Valley, UT is not one I've been to before - if it isn't the Central-now=Swift terminal in Salt Lake.
    Just another to put on my list, I guess.
    If it is that one - yes, every truck/trailer goes through inspection before anything. It can take between 20 minutes and maybe 1.5 hours.

    The place is great for a B-service, because they do it right in the inspection lane.
    Well, great for you - but not the driver behind you.
    For anything else, I'll avoid it.

    That terminal doesn't even have a coffee machine!
    If you are not there when the café is open, just forget about morning coffee.

    I asked because fuel is $.25 less than the street price. However the trailer I currently have is junk so not gonna chance the inspection lanes to save a few bucks.

    I wonder how much it would cost you if they put your trailer OOS?
    Or, by the way, if the DOT did the same thing?

    If DOT did it you would be stranded until a repair truck fixed it.

    At the terminal, they would fix it ASAP.

    Every time I have to go to that terminal I die a little inside. If you pick up a t-call there add 2 hours to your time.

    You do have to go through the inspection lanes to fuel there. I don't think there is any way around it. Although you may just be able to leave the fouled trailer with them to fix and pick up another.

    I'll add a gripe about that SLC terminal. They won't let company driver's bobtail out of there to leave the property and park somewhere else. At least it was like that about a year ago shortly after the Swift takeover of that terminal. Although there are always ways to get out anyway.

    The fuel stops I always ignore on a fuel route are the ones where I'm picking up a t-call at the terminal, THEN they want me to fuel. That always seems to require going OUT of the terminal, then coming back IN the terminal.

    Be smart about your fuel stops. Reopt your fuel plan for YOUR convenience, especially if you are a company driver.

    One example is having a fuel route that wants you to fill up just before a delivery. For one thing it may mean taking precious time you may not have. For another you may have a heavy load for your next pickup, requiring 1/2 tanks or less and having full tanks may give you a service failure if you can't make weight.

    Another example is optimizing shower credits while also optimizing use of your On Duty time to use the minimum amount off your 70. Remember, you are selling your 70 so use On Duty as little as possible. For this reason if I park for a 10 at a truck stop I'll reopt my fuel so I can fuel AND do my pretrip inspection at the same time. That way I'm doing two things at once during my On Duty time. If I'm given a "fill up" on that fuel stop I may only put in 50-80 gallons, so I can do another fuel stop the next morning.
