.His flatbed position got off on.a rocky start with equipment problems, but since they got his tractor fixed, he has been constantly on the road. South Carolina to.Laredo, all over thevSoutheast,.numerous runs in Georgia to.North Carolina and Pennsylvania and now from Laredo to.Milwaukee. He got to.Laredo last night, and 12 hours later was headed north. Swift has treated him great, and he is doing good. They did try to send him into.Mexico from Laredo. Lol And his DM is still telling him, that they are working on getting him a newer truck, but other than age 2012, now that its fixed he is not in all that much of a hurry to upgrade.
Son is getting some really good high mileage runs

I've always said I'm at my happiest when it's just me, the truck, the road, and the horizon. Sounds like he's off to a good start.

rachi Thanks this.

I'm thinking of going flatbed too. Will I lose my tractor? How is the pay, more than pulling a van right?
-
Swift Transportation has tractors setup.sprcifically for flatbed, headache racks, tool strap and chains etc storage. From what I understand flat bed pays more and has other extras such as tarping etc they pay extra. What info I have is from Swift.

Biggest advantage one would see is that you're a limited resource at a huge company...... Lots of miles to be had
-
HOW much does flatbed pay?
-
About .20 cents or more per mile than dryvan. IIRC.my son said its about .49 cents a mile.
-
After the May pay increase kick's in I'll be at .45 (base rate) as dry van, including the quarterly bonus as a Platinum driver.
Loads shorter than 500 miles pay a little to a lot more depending on distance.
It's .04 less right now.
Has flatbed pay increased as well? Because that is a far cry from .20 per mile.
