A Swift owner operator on hometime discovered his dog is illegal in the city limits of Salina KS. Animal Control officers entered his home and confiscated Sophie the dog and have told the driver they will drop charges and put his dog down or keep the charges in play and pay a $2500 fine and they will still put the dog down.

At the end of the day this is a money grab for the city. And thanks to bias media and folks who use this breed as a ego booster for their small "heads" this man will loose his best friend. It's a travesty that this is aloud to happen, we should hold the owners of pets who attack more accountable. It's not the breed, but the few people who maintain the breed with savage ownership. Such a shame.

Would feel sympathy if the dog hadn't been loose running the streets before being picked up by Animal Control.

Being irresponsible carries some heavy penalties.

That is unreal. If nothing else, the dog sure as **** doesn't deserve to be put down.

$2500 in fines for a pittie? That makes no sense. The dog didn't really do anything. There's no report of anyone being attacked. She was probably just out looking for daddy.

There's a reason pit bull dogs are banned and it doesn't take a genius to understand why.
You can have a boa constrictor or tiger as a pet also, but when they're hungry or frightened their natural instincts kick in; same with a pit bull.
Too many pet owners think they're the center of the universe and anyone that disagrees has severe mental illness.
I had a neighbor like that & he was in denial that his dog was dumping garbage cans every night. Claimed his dog would never do something like that. I cured the problem by placing meat balls laced with double dose of laxative by my trash cans. The neighbor kept the dog in the house during the day while he was at work. A week later the neighbor was repainting the walls in his house and had to replace all the carpet. He got rid of the dog and no more garbage cans were turned over after that.Last edited: Apr 3, 2015

Post the phone number to the town and the shelter. Let's put some pressure on these people so we can save this dog.

at the link for this article they are calling for a boycot to the city to stop freight from being dropped there. which one I can tell you unless every truck stopped it will have zero effect. two the residents shouldn't have to suffer for city laws... it's a travesty for sure, but they should have known a labeled vicious breed shouldn't have been allowed to run loose ... so i'm on the fence
