No not really ... Swift does not have an "L/O" division ... just an O/O division ... the lease contract with Swift is the same, regardless of the disposition of the financing on the truck.

Since I posted my email to Richard and yes he did answer, I need to post the answers. Getting Internet service down here in the new place so I'll copy Richard's response. I do have to give him credit for answering.

As promised, Richard's response to my specific questions.
Hello Dan. I apologize in the delay in getting back to you - I needed to get all the information for you to make sure I got the answers you need. Here are the answers to your questions:
1.) What is the onboard or internal memory of the cameras? It has 4GB of internal memory available for the storage of clips.
2.) Can the camera now or in the future access external memory such as SD cards or similar? There is a physical port for a USB device, but the device would need to be configured to allow access.
3.) Is there any limit to what can be defined as an "event"?We cannot/do not set that as it is predetermined by DriveCam - we cannot manipulate it.
4.) You've repeatedly used the term "exonerate". From whom will I need to be exonerated? If you should be involved in an accident and you are falsely accused of fault video will help to clear you. We had an instance of this in our pilot where video helped to prove that our Driver was not at fault for the accident.
5.) If safe drivers truly have nothing to worry about, as you have stated repeatedly, why are you making this capital investment in ALL company trucks? This quote is taken from a recent Land Line online article in which both you and Jerry were quoted. We are making this investment in your safety as well as the safety of all of our Drivers and the motoring public. This tool will help clear you of any false claims - which do exist. The safe driver will quickly find this to be a tool for them to use to show that they were driving as they should and any event that should occur will show this. This is a tool that other carriers are currently adopting and others will follow in the future.
Sure, costs need to get passed on to shippers, but its not totally been their fault. A good number of these motor carriers could find a way to raise driver pay. For example, they could rein in their budget on more Big Brother technology and put their money where the steering wheel is. Truckers make less now than they did 10 years ago. You want a professional; you pay drivers like professionals and ante up.

6.) Can the camera transmit video without driver input? In other words can you view video the driver was not in control of sending? If you should have an event and it is captured with the DriveCam video event recorder, video of 10 seconds prior and 10 seconds after the event will be captured. You will know when an event has been triggered because there is a light on the camera that will blink red and green when an event is being captured. It will then be uploaded to our system for a DriveCam specialist to review and send to your Driver Leader to use to help coach any unsafe driving behaviors. You will also be able to access any videos on the DriveCam portal through the Swift Driver Portal/Kiosk so you can see what the event captured. In addition, you will be able to manually trigger an event by pressing a button on the camera. An example of a manually triggered event is if you want to show what conditions are like a shipper or if you are a witness to an accident.
7.) What level of encryption will be used with these cameras?See this technical explanation:
The DriveCam device utilizes 128-bit SSL (Secure
Sockets Layer) wireless communication security and
requires a valid third party signed certificate to confirm
the authenticity of the server and encrypt the data
moving from the device to the Companys Review
Center.
8.) Who is the cyber security expert for Drive Cam? Who will be the cyber security expert for Swift and what are their qualifications? This is a bit technical but it explains how secure the video event recorder and transmission of videos is:
Backend Infrastructure Architecture
The Companys backend infrastructure is secured with
firewalls, load balancers, and access level controls.
The application is built using SOA (Service-Oriented
Architecture) principles using SOAP (Simple Object
Access Protocol) and RPC (Remote Procedure Call)
messaging. Direct access from the client tier to the
Companys servers is prohibited.
9.) In your first email to me you gave the example of someone hitting my truck while I was stopped and engine was off. Would this even trigger the driver facing camera? If yes, what if the driver, male or female, due to being off duty, is partially indecent, while this video be transmitted? When your truck is off, the cameras are still on and will capture video if your truck is hit while parked. The front window curtain will cover the camera in most trucks but you may also cover the camera while you are sleeping if it makes you feel more comfortable. However, please make sure the camera is uncovered before you start up again.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Thank you!
Some interesting insight from Swift and I tip my hat they answered.
Doesn't change my decision, I will not drive with a driver facing camera.DocWatson, 59halfstep, Switches and 2 others Thank this. -
that means audio is recorded 24/7. Still yet to hear even BS excuse as to why audio is needed
OceanDan Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info, OceanDan.
There is a new video in Swift University that we have to watch, an orientation video on the DriveCam.
One thing that I found interesting was, in the video it stated that video was not saved except for the 20 second interval. Yet we just found out that there is 4GB of memory in the camera, which can store a couple hours of video.
I'm not sure what they mean by 'saving video', but if it is stored in that memory it has been saved.
They state that events can't be triggered remotely.
However, if there are a hundred clips saved in memory and the camera has Wi-Fi then it should be a simple matter to download any of the files at will.
It would not be triggering an event, it would simply be browsing the files available and downloading what you want.
I could be wrong about my concerns, but I seem to have been right about the camera having several GB of storage for video.
Unrelated...
I'm wondering why my phone is showing a time that is 8 minutes less than the QC, the truck, and my computer.
They all show 1846, while the phone shows 1838. -
