you would be working for lease operator. You would lose everything you have with Swift, ie, benefits, color ranking, etc etc etc.

I actually don't work for swift. I don't drive at all right now. I have a friend who leased with swift and wants me to team with him. I haven't drove in about 6 years

Thanks for clearing it up. You would work for him. But if he loses truck. You are out of a job unfortunately.

you do everything to become a driver on your friends truck that swift drivers do,,only thing is you are paid by your friend,,only benefits are what your friends gives you,,if he pays you as a 1099 contract driver (illegal) then you pay the full amount that you and the employer pays to social security 15 1/2% plus you pay federal and any state income taxes,,

Thank you very much for the information. This will help me get experience again without going through a refresher course.

He is right. You are his employee. He has to take care of all taxes and benefits. Be careful that you follow the legal path to set this all up.

You'll onboard with Swift and have to meet their hiring criteria ... Being out of the game for that long you will have to do 200 hours of training. I believe your friend can become a mentor and do your training. During that time you will be a Swift employee. After training you will be switched over to O/O and your friend will be you employer and responsible for your pay. You will still have to conform to Swift policies for drivers and O/Os.

    A21CAV Thanks this.

I want to stress how shaky your footing will be working for a lease op. Some are successful but make sure he has his ducks in a row and is able to pay for truck and all that pertains to it plus pay you a decent amount. If he loses his truck and has to return it you will have to work on getting hired somewhere. Be careful and think all this through well.

Thank you. I guess if he can be my mentor then I will be able to come home when he does. The worse part about the training is being gone for 2months
