You posted on an old and pretty much dead thread however, I would recommend you start your own thread. Include some info about your experience and location so folks in and at those places can jump in. There is a ton of good information on the threads and as many great people eager to help. Best luck to ya'.

Look at the date above your name. Last post was last year; that's dead. I'm stuck at the Flying J on I-70 in Salina waiting for a load. Come on up and visit.

Okay, here it is. I assume you have no DUI/DWI charges or convictions and no moving violations for the last 5 or so years. Swift is looking for drivers but not just any driver. You already have a CDL so you will probably go straight to orientation at Edwardsville. Your orientation will be the same number of days as everyone else including new students and highly experienced drivers, 3-4, because no one gets coded until the whiz quiz results come back and Phoenix assigns numbers. You will have a road test and depending how you do, you will be assigned a truck or do 150 hours with a mentor or 240 hours same as a fresh school graduate. By the time drivers get to orientation they ALL have CDLs.

Go to this website: http://www.joinswift.com/ and select the link that best describes you or go to the top of the page, click, "Apply Now", fill out the online app and wait for a recruiter to call you. Better yet use the "Contact a Recruiter" link to get the info for your area. Remember you are in a job interview from the moment you contact the company until the day you are assigned a truck.

However, before you do that you might want to do your research and ask questions here. The ONLY thing you should say to any recruiter for any company is, "Please tell me about the program." If you ask questions, any good recruiter will identify those things that are your hot buttons, usually the ones you only want positive information about and blow so much smoke up your *** you'll think your hair caught fire.

My experience with Swift has been excellent. Everything they promised, they delivered. It had been a long time since I drove so I went to the Swift Academy in San Antonio, TX, orientation in Laredo, TX, my home terminal, 240 hours that took 8 weeks with my mentor and was assigned a 2010 International Prostar which has been a great truck. I run all 48 states and have been to 41 since I soloed on February 8th. My paychecks have steadily increased both due to miles and that I've been moved up to the $ .28 cpm scale sooner than expected. I am also ranked Gold sooner than the charts show I should be.

The secret is to be a person not a driver/truck number (get to know your DM and office people.) and always be pro-active. You will be treated as fairly and equally as any other Swift driver but you will succeed if you stand out from the crowd. I am one of the few drivers who actually like to go to the Laredo terminal, considered the freight black hole of the country, but my terminal takes really good care of me. Expect to encounter the whiners, crybabies and nay sayers but keep in mind some would b***h if they were hung with a new rope.

Start a new thread and ask questions, a lot of questions. Like I said, there are a lot of really good people here to help. Driving OTR truck is a life style as much as it is a job and you deserve to have the information to make a good, well informed decision.

Hubby likes it but has only been with the company since January. He loves his truck and enjoys seeing the company. (He is driving a 2013 Volvo). Money is okay but we know it will get better. Have fun and be safe!
