Keep me informed on Swift - I got a pre-hire letter from them; however, I need to complete the school first so I have some time before I need to accept the job. Swift, while not my first choice, is still a choice. What do they pay during the 4-5 weeks on-the-road training period and what is the pay for solo during your first three or six months?

according to the pamphlet they pay 450$ a week for weeks 1 to 4, then 500$ for weeks 5 and 6

the start pay for solo is .26 per miles

by the way i've been sent back home because appearently my paper cdl permit is not good. It's written on bold " Valid for use while operating a motor vehicle " and it's also written " this document serves as a 60 days temporary driving privilege "

so i drove back home, i went to my recruiter yesterday and showed the document... she was infuriated, "they should'nt sent you back home " she said...

anyways, later today i'll find out if i go back to Millington next week

no need to say i was pissed off enought that it took only 6 hours to drive from memphis to kansas city... i've been lucky the cops was'nt around with their hair dryer (95mph would = reckless driving )

Thanks Cannuck - keep me informed on your training. I want the job, but everyone on here complains about them. Too me, a company is a company - some good stuff and some bad stuff. That is life.

I hope they take you back!! - Let me know on that too.

i got some clarifications about why they did'nt accept my paper copy of driving permit which result to send me home...

Missouri DMV have to do some verifications with the INS or USCIS ( whatever the organisation ) about my status in the USA... i'm a legal resident and have my green card to prove it.

so Millington did send me home to protect me, this means, to prenvent me to sign the contract then have to pay the 3 thousands something if i was deny by the DMV

I'm still frustrated on the situation but nothing against Swift. I passed my test and got my paper copy on june 8th and according to MO-DMV, i would have the hard copy within 5 to 6 weeks !!! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!

Oh well, i'll have to wait, i have no choice and trucking is what i want to do

yeah i read complaints about Swift as well as good things.... it's the same about every company as well as every industries.. there's pros ans cons.

As a newbie who never drove bigger than a minivan i think it's a good thing to have a company like Swift to give opportunity to people like us to start in the industry.

If you have all your documents in order, study and study and study; things will go smooth for you. I have no worries about it

I agree Cannuck - study, study, work hard, and study.

The recruiter sent an email that he is looking for hazmat stamp. Do you guys haul hazmat. I thought is was all dry.

Don't matter - just more study work.

    a little update...

i got back home from millington, tn and passed the skill test, shifting and pre trip test without a problem... my only complain is that there's not enough trucks for the number of students which means less time behind the wheels and practice backing... other than that i had great instructors

now i'm on my field training since yesterday and had a taste of driving those 20 something thousand lbs monster on the road and it's awsome... the only thing i need to get use of shifting differently than i do with my car lol

friday is my road test with the DMV
