I applied with Swift a couple weeks ago. Within 48 hours I heard from a recruiter saying if I was interested in a position with Swift to email back and he would send a packet to download and fax back. I got everything in and now I`m just waiting for a orientation date. I haven`t asked my recruiter but how long does it usually take? Also, can anyone offer any advice regarding the Lathrop terminal and training from there? I already have my CDL and all of my endorments. also how do you go about picking your route? Do you just tell them where you want to drive and they put you there? I`m hoping for wast coast reginal so I can get home as often as possible to see my family.

Well just got back from my orientation. It was a 3 day deal. I passed the road test and the physical and everything. It seems like a good company and they are definatly into safety. I have a small paperwork issue otherwise I would be out with a mentor right now but most likley sometime right after christmas now. I almost went with Werner and Watkins/Sheppard was interested in me but I`m pretty happy with my decision to go with Swift. The Lathrop terminal is only about a hour away from my home. There were a few guys who did`nt make it for whatever reason but everyone else who made it through the orientation got hired as far as I know. There were experienced drivers and newbies there. Anyway, I thouhgt I would update this thread.

hey there ajs1975. good luck with swift. you just gotta stick it out and be prepared for anything. not trying to bad-mouth them. but life on the road is hard and if you get discouraged, that could be bad. but, good luck and let us know how you turn out.

I also just completed my orientation and am waiting for a mentor. They assigned one and he wants to be home for Christmas so we will leave after. I am looking forward to it, and I also passed on Werner to attend swift. They were not happy at all when I mailed the bus ticket back and declined, but so far I think I made the right choice.

Yeah they wanted to set a orientation date but I just got a bad feeling from them. They wanted me to jump through these hoops for something that really didn`t matter but once it came back fine they were all happy again. I thought, if this is how I`m being treated before I`m even hired what is it going to be like when I`m working for them? Not to mention Swift is closer to me and they pay better than werner too. I think I made the right decision as well. Where did you do your orientation at?

Well I got hired by Swift today. I got coded and talked to my mentor. I`ll be meeting with him tomorrow sometime and will be starting my training. I don`t have a lap top to post my experience as i go but when I get back I`ll do one up.

Well I met up with him today. nice guy. he was going over alot of good stuff to lear, had me working the qualcom right off the bat. all was good untill we went to gas up before leaving the yard and found a coolant leak. He`s a owner/op so it`s his truck. He needs to take it back to the dealership to have some part installed there to fix it but they can`t do it till monday so I`m home again. We`ll try again next week.
