The class requirements..course requirement...for the GI training, Veterans administration approved will not accept the CDL mill type course...i.e. Swift, CR England, CRST...etc...

They require a minimum amount of hours, and specific course outlines that meet the criteria for the government sponsored program. Be careful, get a complete list for your area through the VA, or GI Bill representative...don't believe what any school recruiter, or company recruiter tells you. Get your information straight "from the horses mouth", if you know what I mean!

TMC, Roehl, and Werner are the only ones I know of that offer the apprenticeship. Roehl offers the honor program that will give any veteran that has seperated within the last year free CDL training from thier school at no cost and with no contract. It is called thier honor program. Also you will recive GI Bill benefits for two years and be recieve a salary. I got my CDL from them and quit three months later. I start with swift on tuesday and thank roehl for the free cdl. Hope this helps.

Schneider National and Melton Truck Lines also offer a variation of the VA Apprenticeship Program. I am retired military who is also looking to tap into my Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits.

Deepdiver88, this thread is from 2010 and the information is not accurate . Swift has a free tuition deal for vets now . You won't have to use any of your GI Bill benefits . You might want to send a message to MM3DEG on here ; he recently went through the program and will have current information unlike the trolls who will be here shortly .

    Yes!

Swift will train anyone with an honorable DD214. Regardless of separation date.

They will provide school, hotel, physical, drug test.

You will pay your own meals, and permit fees.

You will be on the hook for $4500.
With no payment due, unless you leave before one year.

Start day 1 of month 13, and your training bill is gone.

Leave before that, and you owe the entire amount. NO PRORATE!!

I went to the Corsicana school. I found the school to be very professional and safety focused.

Overall I am happy. Swift has been great to me. I am starting to get frustrated by some things... But most of it is due to being 'spoiled' by how well I landed here.. And being eager to move on to more technical trucking jobs, with higher pay.

    I am ready to:

    1) make more money and be left alone

    Or

    2) get paid more money to deal with the same garbage at another company.

As long as it is a step closer and helps prepare me for the ultimate goal of hauling cars.

    A21CAV Thanks this.
