Do you know if swift has a Apprenticeship Program

Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program is a U.S. Department of Labor approved program providing structured on-the-job learning and related instruction for approximately one year.
Any individual who successfully completes the program will be certified as a Werner Enterprises Professional Truck Driver and will receive a nationally recognized certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor.
the US Armed Forces interested in becoming a part of the Professional Truck Driving Industry have had limited use of VA Educational Benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill to pay for training VA Educational Benefits are tax-free and over the course of a year could equal or exceed $8,500,

If you're going to use the GI Bill...don't waste it. Go to a local community college....then sign on to someone for the short term training period at no additional cost.

That way, you don't owe the company $5000, nor do you waste tax payer money on a company provided half ### training program.

You have completely missed the point of our post.

#1 The Werner certificate and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee. The Dept. Of Labor does not recognize truck driving as skilled labor. Any school will give you that certificate.....it just won't say Werner on it.

#2 Most major companies will put you in an "apprenticeship/finishing" program, after you've received formal training from a community college. call them all.

#3 Any offer of primary "training" will cost you money. You can choose to pay a trucking company, a CDL school, or a community college. BUT, you will still have to ride with a "trainer" for several weeks before anyone hands you the keys to a truck. So if you choose company training...you're period of "training" will include "finishing".

The community college route is the BEST and least expensive route to take.

Once you've completed that, you can hire on with almost any company for additional "training/finishing" at NO additional charge. ALL major companies will require you to ride with a trainer/finisher, regardless of the route you take.

Be wary of all trucking companies that offer to pay for your "training". They do so generally at a reduced rate of pay...and a very large sum of money.

Bottom Line: Have your CDL in hand BEFORE you put in your application(s).

I understand that but the VA and the Depatment does recognize truck driving as skilled labor. This toook in effect in 2010. I will be able to use my GI Bill and get paid for it I will have my CDL A and use the GI Bill

Source please, a link Will suffice. Your statements bear serious consequences.

Cuz if it's true the Dept of Labor recognizes it...that effectively shuts down the free ride companies have had with foreign drivers and their work visa's.

And it may very well be the last nail in the coffin for NAFTA.
