For a good awhile. The only terminal I know of closing was Las Vegas when they pulled their trucks out and that was maybe 10 years ago. ARCO has been out of the east for many years, I would guess and say they left the east back in the 70's. AZ is about the farest east they go. I know that the terminal in L.A. (VinVale) is union. I'm not sure about Phoenix but I do know that all the others from San Diego to Seattle are not. BP does not want to get rid of the name ARCO or AM/PM because that's what the people know and they know the marketing strategy. They would take a hit for sure if history holds true. Even if they did cross over someone has to haul the gasoline and if the dedicated carriers took over they will take an ARCO driver first because he or she knows the stations. They will not get rid of the drivers and hire new drivers for BP trucks. If they bring in BP trucks all they will do is paint over the ARCO trucks and go on.
No one knows for sure why they pulled the trucks out of L.V. I'm sure it was for cost and a law they call the divorcement law. There's alot to that law but basically it only allows a major oil company ( one that drills, refines, transports, and sells their own product) to own a few stations compared to the dealers. Plus Terrible Herbst switched over to Chevron (a lot of stations) because ARCO would not let him brand his stores the Country Store. They made him keep the AM/PM. There a dedicated carrier most likely was much cheaper for them.

Vinvale, Orange, San Diego and I work out of Colton......
Gashauler, I'm not the guy you were talking to......but I STILL work for the company. I tried to send you a PM, but I just joined this board today so I didn't have enough posts to send you the PM. What I was going to ask you, do you still work for ARCO....ugh BP? You might want to PM me, we might know each other.

Believe it or not, for as long as I've been with the company, I've only loaded out of San Diego twice. I really didn't have much interaction with the drivers, except the usual Hi and Bye, and "Are you from Colton?" sorta thing. I guess we look different or something.
That, and I work nights also. I do know that the first time I tried to find that terminal was NOT fun. I've loaded out of Vinvale (LA) about a million times it seems. Some of the drivers I started with are still there.
