Yep...me too. We did make excellent money until the co op got tired of it. We used to walk across Artesia to that Chinese restaurant. Spent a few holidays there while they powdered the milk. Watched the receiver there suck a few tanks too. Now Orozco parks his stuff on the street there. It's sure not the same. Don't miss it being Christmas Day and the dairyman is inside the house with his family and your out there sucking up the milk and then spending the next several hours at CMP..

I may just get back with Andrus full-time since the security gig I'm currently working might fall through the cracks.
There's been a few close calls doing van, but if this is the way it's done all the time, ugh.

Also, the outfit in NM is Ruan. Thought it might be a bit different since it was a big company and such.

Still would like to move out that way and stay put there, but I'm plenty sure there are other ways to go about it.

I don't know much about Ruan, never met any of their drivers. When I was hauling milk, the big outfits like KCTL, CMT, Regency etc. were sweatshops.

Bulletprof: Do you remember a driver named "Big ED" or Johnny Roacha? Good poeple.

I talked with one of their drivers at a grocery store.
He apparently just got off of work and didn't seem to harried in any way, ran out of the Victorville terminal.

Anywho, I've still got my eye kind of set on it and if it doesn't work out, I could just push on for however long I feel and see about getting guard certified out there in NM.

Give em a try. I drove out of the Victorville terminal when it was Two B Trucking and then Aartman. I ran the Amargosa Nv to Ralphs distribution center in Riverside. Like I've said before the recieving end of the milk business is the frustrating part. Hurry up and wait.

I was also told that they do shift work, 12on/12off, 5-days/week and such.
I've been off the truck since the beginning of February for a bit of a breather.
This would be a good way to approach it differently I suppose.

Because it's easy and local. Some of the guys I drove with were already collecting a pension and didn't need big$$. One of the drivers was a fireman and drove a couple times a week. A lot of our old hands only did two loads a day, 8 hours, 5 days a week.

49 years now, going on 50. Now, I am retired from a major LTL carrier, I don't have to work. But since my retirement several years ago, I have tried several driving jobs and milk hauling suits my lifesytle. I only do it part-time, they call me tell me what they have, I pick and choose or I stay home, simple. Matter of fact, as of this moment, I haven't worked in 2 weeks. But for me to recommend this line of work to a young person, AIN'T NO WAY! Cheap wages, very little benefits and for a person to make a living doing this, the person is going to work about 7 days a week.

Allow me to give you a good example. A trip 480 miles, round trip, 9 1/2 driving time and usually at least 4 hours at the receiver and this pays $135.00, you do the math and tell me what you think. I was making this kind of money back in 1975 and had much better benefits. But the answer to your question is that the only reason I am doing this is basically to have something to do. One of the biggest "rose" in this is that once I get empty, I don't call anyone, I just deadhead home. Once I leave my home terminal, very, very seldom do I have any type of communications with the dispatcher.
