Does Schneider have great training in the tanker division? I'm considering to start driving a tanker and concerned what level of training I will receive from a company. Schneider has a terminal about a hour away from me. I have read some new drivers become trainers after only 6 mos! for some companies. What are some companies that offer great training for students? Superior is out no terminals near me. Would hauling milk be something to look into?
Thanks
Best Tanker Training? What company?

A milk hauling company is going to want some experience and everything i have heard about schneiders training program is quite solid...I wouldn't recommend central or cr england but if its a way to get a foot in the door i wouldn't tell you not too either...i have spoken with a few milk haulers and it is not the easiest thing in the world to haul...But for now if you want to get into schneider is probably a good start.

Milk can be fun sometimes but the smooth bore tankers can beat you up pretty good if your rough at all with them Plus in that industry there is constant pressure to run illegally rather it be over hours or overweight. The farmers will always try talking you into sucking the silos dry. You are at the mercy of the farms milking schedules and when the plants you take it to will receive. I know very few drivers who work less than a 16 hour day minimum. But this is just my experience with it and there are much better places to deal with. On the plus side you would most likely be home every night.

I had a Schneider rep's email and may still have it if you want me to dig, I have seen Schneider trucks all over just about every road I have been on in dozens of states & maybe a 100 truckstops over the decades ~ each and every Schneider truck is 100-% clean & good condition, the drivers display ideal road-skills and one to whom I delivered papers once ( iow actually got to meet the person ) matched the above stated description,......
what the others say is factual, try to avoid milk - foods tanker due to smoothbore, no one is going to get in a smoothbore tanker with zero-time-in-cab and not be swamped with risk that you cannot grasp ~ until maybe 1,000 hours or so in field operations with heavy equipment,...
then let alone actually grasping the risk until you --{ for example }-- haul water in a water-truck or something, when that load moves - which it will in routine driving - it pushes the truck in ways you cannot expect until you see it and that movement can override the pedals ......
not really what you think it is until you learn by doing
I use hydrogen peroxide in pint bottles ~ in other words I pay with skin to do daily ops, so I know what the risk is -
Just FYI almost ALL tankers are smooth bore and it doesn't take 1,000 hours to handle them .
I have seen Schneider tank drivers in various locations and wasn't impressed. I haven't anything positive about them from any of my customers.
I'd say Prime would give better training but their pay sucks.
The better paying tank carriers are more concerned about previous OTR experience than previous tank experience . -
Im leaving monday for oreintation in Green Bay on the 17th for tanker.

RickG ... I guess that back in 2012 the pay for Primes tanker division may have been lacking but they start at .44 CPM and get an average of 2400 miles per week. Home time is lacking but that is to be expected?
-
Wbat does there accessorial pay consist of? If you get no load/unload pay, no demurrage, little or no layover pay, and no paid holidays or vacation, I'd say lacking would be an understatement. -
