The Rocktenn comments couldnt be more true. waiting in line for countless hrs. i just quit hauling chips last week here in Florence SC. pretty easy job, pay was good($100 a day plus $25 a load) for the work. only downside for me was the long hrs. mainly caused by a dump being down or just too many trucks. Dot loves chip and log trucks too.

Yep, DOT loves log trailers and chip wagons more than a fat kid loves cake.

Same here in Oregon I drive for JNB we get paid a percentage of the load I am pretty new to it only been doing it for 3 months and am averaging 2800-3000 a month pretty good living if you ask me but we also have our slow times of the year as well. That aside I love the job and think it's pretty fun.

Should be one of the easier jobs to get, especially in the southeast because it doesn't pay great and usually it's a bunch of long hours.

Didn't seem to work that way in North Florida, I hauled chips for Pritchett Trucking and we'd go through guys like a baby goes through diapers. Must be different in SC.

I haul logs in Colorado but the company I drive for also runs a walking floor and belt floor trailer. I've run them both on a few occasions filling in for other drivers. The belt floor is infinantly faster than the walking floor but most guys in the area run walking floors because you can find them cheaper. And yes the DOT loves to pull in log and chip trucks. Last month another one of the log haulers got caught at 93,000 pounds at the portable scales between Colorado Springs and Pueblo needless to say noone in the wood hauling buisness is happy with him.
