Hired in South Texas
I was recently hired to haul water for a company in South Texas. It happened rather quick, and. Just showed up this morning. A bit different here than in Florida from what I'm used to obviously. I'm glad to finally be in the oil business, as the money aspect is very enticing. Anyway, the company has been great so far, and my training begins Monday. Just waiting on drug screen to come back. I talked to a few drivers who have been here for a while, and they have nothing but positive things to say. Can't wait to get started. I'll keep you all posted as I go.

I am in a small town called Kenedy. It's 60 miles south of San Antonio, and about 80 miles NW of Corpus Christi. The company I was hired by is Nabors. A great big outfit so far. I have been treated extremely well from everyone I have been in contact with. The national recruiter is the best I have ever dealt with, so get online, apply, and hope they contact you! Good luck!

As I'm sure you know or have been told the main thing in the patch is complain about nothing, to no one. Texas is a right to work state and oil companies do not like sissies. There are usually many guys ready to give a whirl. I have seen guys hauling frac sand in great standing with the company complain about things that most truckers would complain about and not see another load for a week.
I live the land of oil/gas and i have many, many friends that work in the field, they make great money, work in out right vrazy conditions sometimes, work 12 hr shifts min, at times work 24+ hrs straight, almost always have a close bond with each other. Most often guys in that industry see each others as teammates. Many of them have told me about guys who just didn't get the "team" aspect of it and were sen packing quickly. Since there CAN be danger lurking that is seen and unseen this is an extremely important aspect of the patch.
The advice I've heard them give the "worms" most often is just that: "make sure the guys knkw you've got their back (through your actions) and don't complain about anything. If something looks dangerous/stupid to be done a certain way just pertend your dangerous and stupid"
Good luck man, I'm glad our state is still able to provide jobs for anyone willing to really work.

Sounds like a good company. Their records showed they started drilling in Canada then moved down the Rockies into Texas. It shows that the company is there to stay and if all the things that texan007 said happens it will be unfortunate. Like he says keep things negative to yourself and use the company for your benefit. That kind of knowledge can be priceless and in the end you may come out with a good record with great experience so you can pick where you want to make a career. You never know until you'll there, you might end up there and never leave. Good luck.

It's all based in experience, but at my location it's a minimum of $18, with all the OT you want.
