Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it dealt with Midwest Dairy Transport out of Coopersville, MI they are a newer company and haul milk products in the Midwest region mostly Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, some New York and PA. They are offering .35 per mile with about 2500 miles per week 15 per hour detention time. Home daily most of the time and working ever other weekend. I have never hauled tanker so just looking for advice on the tanker industry and milk hauling. Thank you in advance.

A tank full of milk or worse half full of milk will move around. i would stop at the store and when i came out 5 minutes later it still had not settled down.
You'll learn to time shifting, and stopping is an added skill, it can push you forward on ice if you are not careful

dittos to cuzzin it- food products and some chemicals are hauled in smoothbore(called "shotgun")tanks, meaning there are no baffles or compartments. the weight per gallon(density) determines how many gallons you can load and stay in legal weight; a 49000lb load of some stuff will only be half-full in a 9000gal tanker. a half to 3/4 full load is the most dangerous as far as cornering and braking; if you're in neutral at the wrong time while shifting, it can really make you look like an amateur. these are some of the things only experience can teach. all-in-all I enjoy pulling tanker as much or than anything else. at least hauling milk you wont have to stop for every RR track, good luck

Thank you for your input. Any tips or advice on shifting? Such as proper times or when not too. Do you cut back on the amount of downshifting? And any pointers for winter driving? Thank you in advance.

Yes I did. I worked there for almost 6 months. I liked hauling milk but not so much for them. They paid good, but didn't offer any benefits really and you stayed out longer than they said you would. Equipment wasn't the best either. I'm hauling Propane and fuels now and like that much more, but my milk experience got me the job hauling hazmat tankers

I would say go for it because it's probably better than where your at, but unless they changed you won't get weekends off unless you ask or remind them the week before. Not sure about the home every night, I know some were, but a lot got calls asking us to run to another farm and stayed out a few nights. I know they are hauling out of a few less farms now than when I was there from 01/13-06/13 so being out might not happen as much. Jason is a really good guy and is pretty fair.
