Loves, Gemini motor transport, now hiring drivers

I really don't think it was a question of experience. You told him you took off with a medical problem and they just simply took another driver that has better qualications. Even if what you did sounds good to you and you did the right thing a new company will not bother with it when they have so many applicatants to pick from.

 

I applied today and was wondering specifically about the weekly/yearly money. In the trucking business everybody always says you make good money doing this and good money doing that and after 17 years in this industry i have learned that "GOOD MONEY" is all a matter of opinion. If i am coming from a factory where i made 25 to 30k a year i would say that 50k is good money but i have made over 75k for the last ten years so to me, 50k is not good money, that would definately be a sizeable pay cut. Didnt want to offend anybody but i have been caught in the "yea it's good money trap" before, so exact numbers would be appreciated or can i BRING HOME 1,000 plus a week? Thanks for the info.

 

I posted this on another thread about Love's/Gemini. Been trying to find out about Love's /Gemini and read through this thread and some other ones too. I am more than impressed with them.

I guess I could call myself a newbie. I have had my CDL since 92 but haven't driven since 2006. I maintained my CDL with all the endorsments, tanker, doubles/triples but didnt do the hazmat and medical card when I renewed it last year . I can go down and do the fingerprints and test. I moved into a supervisory role making good money, then downsized. I want to get back into driving but it has been hard because I want to find a company that I want to stay with and not move around. I have been looking to relocate to West Texas for a long time. I put in apps online with a lot of companies and got a few rejection emails.

I figured I am considered a new driver(maybe?) since I haven't had any commercial driving in years and that was mostly van. Is it hard to even get a job when you have a CDL but no recent experience? I want to put in an app with Gemini but actually am afraid of the dreaded rejection, which to me means don't re-apply.

 

If you are impressed with Gemini and would like to work for them, how can you possibly get a job if you don't apply... Yes you don't have recent experience, but IMO, it only takes a few minutes to fill out an application. Who knows if you don't try. If you can find out more about a local Loves location, see if you can get a hold of the terminal manager/transportation supervisor, and talk with him/her directly. A voice is better than words when it comes to applying IMO. Good luck in your search. Hauling fuel is a great career choice.

 

Can anyone who works here give me some insight thru here or pm. Pay, work schedule, work environment ( laid back or bunch of stiffs). Reason I ask cause I currently run night linehaul LTL. It's a very laid back company for the most part, nights, and I'm on pace for 65k have it alright with my seniority 1yr in. I've been pretty intrigued with runnin fuel is why I applied acouple months ago. I know fuel is home daily vs layover 2-3 times a week. I love my current job and it has alot of upside can make 80k by my 3rd year but wait time and a very late night shift(get off 5am-9am) kinda gets old. If at Loves I can make 65-70k and have a night shift that ends before the sun goes down I would be happy. Also I haven't hauled fuel ever. I got a call but was asleep(during the day for work) and was wondering before I give them a call back and setup a interview. Also people that apply, I applied over a month ago or so. Any insight will be helpful. Thx.

 

We run two different shifts up here (two trucks; single tanker and a doubles) one is setup to deal with curfew hours for Long vehicle combinations in Denver. The single tanker doesnt have those restrictions. I would have to say that most shifts/dispatched loads can be run in around 8-10hrs. The shifts are setup for 12. As far as which shift I prefer...both have pros and cons. Days is nice because you get to run during the daylight, but you also have to put up with more traffic and longer rack delays. Nights are nice because of less traffic, short to no rack delays, but when the weather is bad you deal with black ice, low visibility, etc, etc. During the winter it doesn't matter which shift you run, you will run into delays and weather issues.

I've been with Gemini for a little over a year. I like it so far, nice coworkers, regional, and I get along great with the dispatchers.

 

I was interested in being a fuel jockey, but most all of them I've seen require at least 2 years experience and I'm still a little shy of that. They're great paying jobs. There was a company advertising in Seattle and it was like a $75k/yr job. Plus gas hauler outfits run top notch equipment with all the bells and whistles.

 

It never hurts to apply... Honestly, most trucking companies are hurting for drivers right now. I haul fuel, and we have many open shifts currently... So if I were you, I'd get a hold of the transportation supervisor, and have a chat... Try to get access in person if you can, always easier IMO...

 

So still waiting to hear is the pay hourly or pay by the load? Do they run overweight permits or just legal loads?

 

I waited a little bit to put in my app. I got my haz mat endorsement and fingerprinted. I hope they are OK with just getting the hazmat endorsement. Also if anyone knows if Love's/Gemini does hire from different areas as I put in for a location in another state. I want to relocate but also want a job before I actually relocate.

So I will see what happens now.
