I'm an O/O for Transport Service and I'm happy with them. I'm paid percentage and there's plenty of freight and I keep the deadhead to a minimum. I can't comment on whether we have high turnover or not but we have a lot of drivers here who have many years under their belt. My opinion is that you're gonna make more money hauling chemicals than many other kinds of freight. Most of the tractors are Volvos and Internationals but the drivers I've talked to make decent money. I'm sure you could do a lot worse. Service Transport are probably a pretty good co too.
Don't listen to people who have no clue about these companies, it's only heresay or rumors.
If these guys have never worked for TSC then how would they know?
    Good luck

Do you mainly run from chemical plant to chemical plant? If so I'm curious what that's like. That's mainly what STC does all across USA/Canada and I think Mexico too. I'm thinking about getting on with them at the Houston tx terminal, and plan on scheduling a tour with the recruiter next week.

I don't drive for either of the 2 companies mentioned but I do pull tanks.
Yes it's mainly chemical plant to chemical plant with an occasional port to chemical plant.
Most places I go to are pretty easy to get a truck in and out of(although there are rare exceptions).
If you don't have a TWIC card already then you might wanna go ahead and get one(you will need one).
I've made more money on percentage than I've ever made on mileage pay... I am an O/O but from what I've heard it's better for company drivers to as long as deadhead is minimized.
Dont you drive for Schneider now? Have you considered getting on in their tanker division to get a feel for it?

    Shooter81,

I'm about to grad from truck driving school in a few weeks. No I don't have a TWIC yet but have the intent on applying this week. I've been to the Schneider terminal in Houston Tx, and most of the tankers I see there and on our highways look in pretty bad shape... dents everywhere. No clue if that matters but I assume it does since obviously drivers are banging into things...hopefully without a load in the tank lol.

Service Transport is pretty high on my list of prospective companies and they hire grads. so I'm going to talk with them further.

Do chemical haulers typically prohibit riders in the trucks? (spouse, family, ect)

    Thanks

Most chem companies dont allow riders or pets...but most chemical companies are out and back...7 to ten at the most...some companies make you stay out longer....

Out and back: meaning, they literally send me wherever the load dictates, and bring me right back to Houston deadhead?
