I am getting my CDL from McFatter Tech in South Florida in about a month. Was wondering about companies that hire newbies and do tanker/hazmat? Is there such animal?

Comcar and Florida Rock & Tank has tanker/hazmat in Florida and hires new CDL graduates.

Thanks Chinatown! Will look into them. About to graduate school and researching companies.

When Chinatown says Comcar, he means CTL. Comcar is a Company thats owns CCC LLC cement division. Coastal, flatbed division. CTL is the chemical division of Comcar. They lost a huge account to Dillon here locally. But if you are looking out of florida, that might work. Florida rock does fuel transportation.

Thanks, Driver of the year. I figured what he meant when I went to the website. Looks like there's a bunch of companies under ComCar. Would you know anything about CTL?

From the dry van companies I am considering Werner having in mind my location in South Florida. Yesterday I went north on US-27 to lake Okeechobee and it seemed that every tenth truck was Werner's.

Okay, just filled out applications for CTL and Indian River. Definitely want to go tanker/hazmat. What Chinatown has been saying about tanker companies has been inspiring and I always listen to people with experience. I think I have a good shot since I have a clean driving/criminal record, all endorsements, passport and applying for TWIC card (will use the background check from the hazmat application). Anything else I can do to bring my chances of getting hired even further?
I think I will apply with Trimac and Florida Tank & Rock tomorrow as well. Need to take some rest now -
CTL is not bad for a guy getting started They have their Main Terminal in Mulberry. They take on rec.grads.from CDL schools. when you are with your trainer the trainer is in the passanger seat while you do all the driving and they put you in a motel at night. They have terminals in Mulberry,Tamp, and Jacksonville in FL. plus terminals in several other states. Tehy did lose a few of their local contracts and laid several drivers off or gave the OTR system options. If you run OTR they pay .42 ld..34 dh. I've been with them for 1.5yrs.and am happy with them.Usaually go out for 2 weks then get home for 2-3 days. I would go with a tanker if given the choice.
