I Just want to find out more information about tank driving and more specifically fuel hauling? I have been driving just under 2 years. I have 1 year otr exp. dry van and 8 months pulling doubles for conway line haul. If anyone can give me any insight just on how to get started that would be great.

You might try the regional bulk hauling outfits that also do gas. They will always be looking for good help.

They might start you on another product till you prove your self. And then move you up to gas......

Also as a new gas driver plan on nights, weekends and holidays. Hauling gas is not a 9-5 job.............

Forget about the major oil companies ......... They are all dumping their trucks anyways.

Have you been in the tanker section on here?

Better yet: have you used the advanced search function on here...it works really well, and can probably get you specific info that you want.

I have been doing tanker work for right at 20 years now, and that's the only thing I'll haul. Right now I'm pulling asphalt out of Western Minnesota, last week I did the bio run in Illinois, and the week before burner oil out of the Twin Cities. Our spring startup is just a week or two away, and then for the next five months I'll be hauling hot oil into the Dakotas. Not getting rich by any means, but making decent money for what I do. Occasionally I will do ethanol, and have trained for gasoline. I do not do the gasoline for the complexities and for the overall hassle involved in delivering to the little gas stations. In my 35+ years of driving. I have pulled almost every kind of load available, and by and far prefer those that go into a tanker.

well i applied for bp last week and they sent me a email saying they accepted my qualifications so i don't really know what that means but i just want to be prepared if I do get a shot do to my lack of exp. i am out of so cal la area so it would be nice to hear a couple other drivers first experiences to try and just get a feel for what they are looking for as far as the requirements. i feel the app was very basic and was just asking for the same qualifications as any other local driving position so it kind of threw me off.

also at conway i recently pinched my set on a tight turn do to a car parking right in front of me and i had a tight squeeze getting out of the driveway. it is not a dot reportable so it will not go on my driving record which is completely clean but do you think they will put it on my dac or try to prevent me in anyway from moving on especially to something the nature of fuel hauling?

I did tanker/hazmat; it's the best trucking in the world. One of the better companies in California is A&R Transport. The avg pay is $62K per year. They ask for 3 yrs. experience, but always apply anyway, you just might get hired. Apply online, but don't call first; it's easy to say no on a telephone. As far as the fender bender you had, just be honest and it shouldn't matter. I'll PM a list of companies to start with, but there are plenty of others also. I think Schneider has some tanker work out there, but not sure of the pay.

I used to haul tanks for Schneider and they did have a terminal in south central L.A. Mostly the drivers from the Houston terminal got to go there. Their biggest complaint was the Cali drivers always refused to leave Cali and the terminal was in the hood. This was in 2012.
