I applied for a driver position at Florida Rock and Tank lines in Montgomery AL online. I was immediately turned down, the next morning. I have been out of the fuel delivery business for 2 1/2 years. I have 9 years tanker fuel, chemical experience. They stated that there was a DOT regulation that stated because of the freight they haul, I have to have 12 months recent tractor trailer experience in the last three years. They are always looking for drivers, so can this be true. I have a pretty good record, and background so this is very confusing to me. Im sure once I get behind the wheel, I should be able to pick up where I left off as to hauling petroleum products. Any advice as to how I can curcumvent this situation and get back in a truck. Im not panicking at this time, but visibly shaken.......Help! Thanks
12 Months Recent Experience - DOT Regulation?

I don't think it is a DOT rule, I think that is just a company preference. I agree that it is silly for them to turn you down if that is the reason they did. It is like riding a bicycle if you ask me. Sorry, dude.

It's not DOT, its a rule that insurance companies are imposing. I was in the same boat. Seven years experience, perfectly clean record, then did 10 years of overseas mission work...sound like an ideal driver, right? Only company that would hire we was my former company that knew me and was also part of a group of trucking companies that are basically self-insured. It makes no sense at all. I suspect the mega carriers have put the insurance companies up to it to force us all to start over again with SWIFT.

Try this one : Thyssenkrupp Steel in Montgomery. They have hazmat/tanker & flatbeds.
Schneider will probably hire you for their tanker division along with a refresher course.
Comcar hires new CDL drivers right out of CDL school for their tanker division, so you shouldn't have a problem there.
Take what you can get, then in 12 months can go about anywhere you want.sprizo Thanks this. -

I'd sure like to see that reference. Next time just ask for it and see what they do.

No, someone will pick him up... Isn't Dufour Petroleum in your neck of the woods? I'd check them out... They broker loads even up here in MN IA and WIS... seems like they got it together, or they might have some contract carriers that they know about that may be looking. Stay away from the likes of Schneider.
