Backing is something most new drivers struggle with. Worrying is good if it causes you to get out and look more. That is the key to it really. Move the truck a few feet at a time and make sure its where it should be before moving it again. Tanker is more forgiving than van when backing. There is no tail swing because the tandems are all the way back and they are shorter.

Most of the time if your not delivering at a big plant..The offload area is kinda an afterthought

Always enjoyed backing around "S" curves to get into a loading rack at the Dow "B" plant in Freeport, TX.

Why do all loading racks need a drop off and concrete post right in the path of your tandems?

Many of the places we have to take our tankers make me wish for bumping a dock
Backing in off a busy street is pretty common as well as blindsiding to the tank or pit, I'm in the environmental services field (waste oil or liquid haz waste) so we get to drag lots of hose sometimes to get to the things our customers want pumped out after an interesting back to get where we need to be. -
I haul tanker once in awhile where I'm at and 99% of the time we don't do any backing up. About the only time we do back up is to get out of a spot at the coffee shop or out of the mechanics bay!!

Backward serpentine, blind back to a 90 degree single lane load zone, poorly lit and tiny areas... I have see it all. In fact, the backing can be a lot worse at times than van. -
when pulling a tanker you can say "i have more miles in reverse than most going forward" LoL!
