Island is a fairly good company. I was an o/o there and it was not that bad of a place to work. Pay was good even for company guys. One guy I knew was bringing home 56 thousand a year back in 06. However, they do have there downfalls. Alternate energies is another company as is Bolla transport.

One is that they are like every big company and will make you work and they really care about seniority. However they are safety oriented. Years before with paper logs, they didn't force you to work or drive illegally. They would throw owner operators out for speeding. I was an o/o with them and they weren't that bad. However, when my steer tire blew on the turnpike and my truck rolled, they showed their true colors. I rolled into the ditch and there was no damage done to property or other people. The load of asphalt was salvaged with only some being lost. The first time they showed their colors was when my truck was back in their lot and near the garage where the wrecks are kept. The people/technicians who came to get my tire for analyzing were given the go ahead by the company and not me. (It was my truck which meant I had to give the OK and not them) I wouldn't have known about that unless a mechanic i was friends with didn't call to tell me. Second, and the big one was THEY took the money Yokohama was going to give me as a settlement/ I'm sorry. Then, they terminated my contract and didn't want me back from what I just said. Otherwise, they ain't that bad.
