Im looking at purchasing an Aluminium Enddump capable of many different types of work.
My favorite that Iv seen so far is Alumatech which if I'm not mistaken is manufactured by Travis now.
I like this half round type as it's better for hauling dirty dirt or aggregate much like the steel end dumps we currently run but I'd like to be able to haul agracultural products also.
Can anyone recommend the best and most lightweight trailer that might fit my needs?
Ill try to post a picture of what catches my eye at the moment.
    Cheers!

You may want to try the wink trailer. Its got plastic sides and can be fitted with a high lift gate

Wow, that's pretty amazing! However I'd like to see what the wear factor would be in comparison to aluminum. The weight savings are about 1000lbs, so they say.
    Thanks Mr&MrsPete!

I work for an agriculture company and most all of our fertilizer is delivered in MAC dumps like the one you have pictured. They are frameless spreads with front lift axle. They are nice trailers, but pricey! You better have some money saved or have some good steady customers if you spend that much on a trailer. The guys that haul our stuff run lots of concrete materials when they are not busy hauling fertilizer. Its hard to spec a dump to be good at everything.... focus on an area you feel like serves your customer base best and order a dump that suites that industry. Good Luck!!!

Personally I like a Travis, Trailstar or a Vantage. I have a Vantage Smooth side now. It came with a factory installed liner which I hate because it's a PAIN to clean under it which it needs periodically because dust builds up under it. 39 or 40 foot is the length I like and it's legal for the bridge, axle, and king pin laws. Sides at 56" 0r 63" handle pretty much anything I'm going to haul. I like a 3-way gate. Cross members at 12 or 16 inch centers so it's forklift compatible and dock height. I also have an electric Shurlok roll over tarp cause I'm getting old, fat and lazy. I like the Alumatechs for the weight savings but I don't like the 2 tons I loose because of the rounded sides when I haul cottonseed hulls or similarly light product.

    Thanks NightWind, that's good info!
What is the tare weight, length and how high are the sides of your Vantage? Also do you know what cubic yardage your trailer is?
The smooth sides are nice, much easier to clean. Having a flat floor trailer with 3 way gate is a great idea for back loading. How do you chain or secure the forklifts or rolling stock in the trailer? :biggrin_25514:

I spec'ed out a Mac half round with 72" sides, spread axle with tarp and liner and it came in at 12,100lbs

I hear a lot of folks on here saying the Mac is a good trailer. I'd like it to be a bit lighter though.
I built my truck to a heavy haul spec, fully loaded with fuel, hydraulic oil, chains & binders etc etc it weighs 22k LBS.

Well you know what they say? You cant have everything. There are lighter trailers out there. About 10,500 is about as light as your gonna get. My Pete is heavy spec also and comes in about 21,000. What actually needs to happen is the rates need to come up. You should be able to haul a legal load (23.5 or 24 ton), and make a good living. My transfer actually does 25 but now I have to compete with West Coast Sand and Gravel who puts transfers out there hauling 27 plus. The rate cutters strike again. Dirty dirt should be at a premium but companies wanna haul it for the same rate they haul sand and gravel and non-haz. I think 23 or 24 ton is the best your gonna get with a heavy haul tractor

Im actually looking at replacing my old end dump also. Ive heard fron several friends in the business that the mac and the east are really nice trailers. I love the look of the round bottom, but you will loose some yardage capacity. Have you looked at the mac MVP model. There was a company advertising one in the truck paper that claimed its weight to be just over 10,000 lbs. that is a square bottom style, smooth side box. It looked sharp, check it out, see if that interests you. If you go into truck paper under trailers, and under mac, then click on 39-96-60 you can check it out.
