    Hey Ethos,
Great thread here, Ive learned alot, thanks for taking the time to provide quality information.

I'm thinking about bailing on my current job where I've been 8 years, which is outdoors 365 days a year. (non-trucking) Just getting tired of it. Gross pay is 60-63k, which is decent for me since I'm single and I live close to work, but the job is downright brutal at times, especially winters.

Anyway I'm thinking about going with Schneider out of Keasby, NJ. Your already mentioned Schneider info. is great. Just wondering if you could shed some light on what a greenhorn would make after orientation/training and getting on the road OTR?

I would absolutely 100% be as hard a runner as possible. I've driven my own personal vehicle 1300 miles in one day, although I probably wouldn't do that again, unless some emergency came up. I understand the HOS limit me to roughly 600/day anyway. My current job also involves a fair amount of driving. My license is 100% clean, no tickets or accidents. I'm 33 years old.

Would earnings increase every year, or just flat line? If I get stuck at a receiver, do they pay detention hourly?

I really don't mind making below average my first year since I'm a rookie but would like to see some decent increases long term.

Thanks for any info in advance and have a good one.

45 to 50k should be doable your first year. Not the best terminal to run out of but it is what it is. Best thing would be to put in your first year at Schneider then look to switch to either Trimac or Superior. Or you could get a regional or local position up there. The thing is the northeast just has no miles. Even at .60 cpm, I couldn't make much up there. Most of your loads will be on the east coast so you really need to look for a job that doesn't rely on cpm. Or you could move. Think of Schneider as an experience builder and plan your next move. But if you want to stay in the northeast then OTR probably isn't what you want longterm.

You can go read Firespocks thread about his first year, it's very good. He will tell you the same thing, the northeast is a good way to go broke.

As for Schneider, they pay detention after two hours plus load and unload pay. Not sure about the raises anymore.

Started my second week of training at Thatcher Transportation and got to unload my first trailer this morning! Pretty darn fun! Kinda scary though too! Both tanks were inside a building,at 2 different locations and the tank readers were messed up on both, but I got most of it off (they just wanted the tanks topped off) lots to remember. I'm nervous about remembering all the rules for placarding. Alot 9f times we haul a pup with several deliveries on it, each with its own placard, then we also pick up mt barrels, totes, tonners, and canisters of chlorine, and most everything needs placards, even while mt.

    Pretty darn cool stuff!

hmmm..$16.50 x 30 = $490.00 vs. Schneider pay for same time period would be $60.00 or a whopping $2.00 per hour. That is IF It is approved. Seems like they're always trying to push it just a little deeper. Time for me to move on. I've put my one year in. Sing along..

Take this job and shove it! I ain't workin here no more...

Fascinating and accurate calculations. And why I left Schneider.

Trimac pays me for all the work I do. Not just at shippers & receivers. Terminals Tankwashes also.

Last word I heard was "all Driver positions in the Elite Fleet are filled". (I'm not surprised).

What would you pay a driver who was held up for 30 hours for a no-fit at a plant.....?

In-case anyone is still following this thread, know that Schneider has gone off the deep end in the past 18 months. Not even senior drivers are making decent money anymore. I know one driver who has been with the company for 27 years, in the bulk fleet 7, is lucky if he gets 2300 miles a week. Most of the time its closer to 1800. Newer drivers, your lucky to see a 1000 miles a week. One of the huge problems is that Green Bay in its infinite wisdom decided they need to bulk up (pun intended) the fleet and hire drivers as fast as their trainers can train them. So now that they have developed a fleet of close to a thousand drivers they should be able to support those drivers and their families right??? Yeah, no. I heard a number once that only 60% of the fleet sees a load every day. The rest sit around going broke making $65 bucks a day for layover. I know somebody will get on here and call me a liar, and I'm not saying their aren't drivers in the fleet making money, there are. But most are either IC's or on dedicated accounts. Schneider makes sure the IC's get high mileage loads. Rumor has it there is something in the contract that if they make below a certain amount per week, they aren't responsible for their loan payment. Is this true, I have no clue cause I'm not an IC.

Enough ranting, just thought I would burst the Schneider Bulk bubble.
