Well, I should rephrase. I'm not going to, but I should.

I more or less, meant to say that they're great at picking up sharp things on job sites, with an end dump all you're doing is driving around sharp things.

Any fuel economy boost you'd get out of a SS would be entirely negated by having to replace it as soon as you hit a sharp rock, nail, chisel stuck in the ground on a job site.
I see things sticking out of the ground day in and out on job sites, landfills are even worse since they tend to be built with layers of trash covered in dirt. All together I've gone through 4 tires since the beginning of the year. Just hitting nails, and nails alone at the three local Waste Management landfills. Straight through, the tires were screwed. Would suck to loose an entire SS just to a nail, rather than a single dual.

i have singles on the back of my truck and i'm only about 800lbs lighter then a guy with duals and the same exact truck.. so much for traction it depends on the tread type, i have the knobby kinda because i spend alot of time in scrap yards and i do pretty good. even during the summer i was sling slush with the best of them up in WI.. so much for tire damage, well i only have 8 side walls that could possible get punctured on the back of my truck versus 16 for the guy with duals on the back.. i can plug a tread puncture, can't plug a sidewall puncture..

the threat of a blow out and rim damage is in the back of my mind, not to mention the price tag for one tire.. in all honesty i'm looking for a set of duals as soon as i wear these down.

    x#1 Thanks this.

just a quick update I got my goodyear rep to come pretty close to the michelin advantage rebate so I have 4 drives and 4 trailer tire and wheel sets on order. I also ordered a TST tpms. I'll post an update once I get them on and some miles on with them. Thanks to everyone who replied with their experiences.

I agree w/CabWrecker. Many of the dump sites are like dumping on a sponge. Have the front of the load hang for a bit...? Wooo-Hoo!!!! you'll have trouble getting your butt outa the seat due to suction! You're not gonna get that much better mileage given the terrain...unless you're not doing construction work...and that limits your options should some come up. I generally agree w/ Rutherford...but differ here.
