    Hey everyone,

I've found my self with a tough decision. When I first got into trucking my primary goal was to eventually end up in the dirt work industry as a dump truck/heavy equipment operator. Well I was given an opportunity yesterday to do just that, starting pay is $120 a day and after 30 days $150. He said he's got more work than he can handle and needs to hire someone that can move up in his company. I would be responsible for my own taxes as he won't start w2s until January. And that's the problem. I'm building a house and my bank won't allow me to go to a "self employed" status while I'm building my house. I would just wait until my house is done but he's looking to start all this work next week. So I have 2 options, just walk away from a dream job or bust my arse and work 2 full time jobs until my house is complete. My current employer is pretty lenient on when I come to work so long as the work gets done. And sometimes my days here only last 3-4 hours but I get 50-60 hours here cause I work everyday. So any advice?

Both situations will be for your future. But your house will be a kind of a longterm asset. How long will the work on the joboffer last?
If changing the job would put some risk on my house, I'd stick with the job until the conditions on the house are satisfied.

I would think you could do much better than $120 per day with a Class A license. Even $150 is low. I would keep looking for a job that pays a living wage. The whole "I can't do W2 until jan." thing sounds fishy too. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume there are no benefits (health ins., retirement, etc). As a professional driver, you can do much better than what sounds to me like a fly-by-night operation.

The work is supposed to last 1-2 years and I asked him if I would get laid off after that, he said no that's just that particular project he told me he needs another full time dump truck driver. He's been in the dirt business for 20 years and he said he started this business about 3 years ago. Just trying to get into a dirt work company and I thought $150 a day sounded decent.

I'd have second thoughts about the dump job. Lots of red flags i see.

You can make much more than that pulling hazmat/tankers and also have a full benefits package.
