Hourly pay in DFW is trash. Dupre is about the top and they only pay $20.30 for 5+ yrs. Have a big sign saying make $58K a yr. I have made $53K with 3 1/2 months to go and we just got nice pay raise 3 months ago. Plus too many hourly guys doddle around. Pilot/Dupre/Coastal others hang around streets near some racks sleeping and playing with phones/pads. NuStar {Valero} just cracked down on them. They would pull up to load and then call their dispatch holding up line for 5 or 10 minutes. Now you better be ready. Pull up-double check and in or you are locked out. If hourly was bumped up to $24+ it would be OK. But not likely to happen around here. Too many willing to sit around on duff costs company too much. Pilot pays their guys around $16. But most are 65+ and just donk around. Either scale is available here. But % is the only way to get up to $80k plus. Knowing the customers and pay for loads is also crucial. Some guys just take whatever they get thrown from dispatch. I tell them no if they are going to send me into some black hole that will take 4-5 hrs and the rate is not good. Had one last night. Dallas to Mineral Wells. Most of these are crap. No one wants them. This one is not. Small Mom/Pop.. Never gets more then 5500 gallons. Good rate. With weekend and night differential pay it is right around $103. Good start. Takes about 4 hrs. Have had dispatch checking racks in FtWorth for load coming back to get loaded sooner. Most just head on back to Dallas/Mid cities area and waste more time. % is just like anything else. You have to either work very hard or work smart. Smart is my choice. Learn the system and use it to your advantage. Don't run like mad man trying to get that extra load and put yourself and others in danger. Some never learn.
Just got a job offer from a tanker company hauling fuel..
