Hello,
Applied at Dana Transport for a tanker cleaner position. Just wondered if anyone knows what they typically haul and what the tank cleaner job is like?
Thanks...

Every year there are a few men killed cleaning tankers,,very dangerous job. it will hurt your health..I know I used to own a chemical tanker.

You'll see all kinds of products through there, but the bulk will be whatever the local (Grove City?) hauls for their local customers. Yes, it can be very dangerous but follow the safety procedures to the letter and you'll be ok. Don't get complacent and take shortcuts. I run for Dana and our tank wash has not had any of the horror stories you hear happen to anyone here.
Ukumfe Thanks this. -

Can't speak for Dana specifically, but I washed trailers for 4 years, and if the terminal I was working at hadn't clsed, I'd probably still be doing it. It really isn't a bad job, for the most part you just put the spinner in and let it do its thing. Some products will require you to go inside and pressure wash or scrape. Obviously you will be dealing with hazardous chemicals. Wearing your ppe is imperative. I thought I was invincible at first and got a pretty nasty chemical burn on my leg. You will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. You'll spend a good deal of time wet.

I will put it this way, I don't have experience with washing the tanks that carry them, but I do have experience with HazMat. I am a nationally certified firefighter with specialty as a Hazardous Materials Technician and a HazMat Railcar Specialist. You have more balls than me! Even though I clean up the crap in level A "spaceman" suites, I wouldn't want to be in a container with half of this crap that is out there! I have see everything from milk (funny you never think of milk as a needed concern until it reaches water, like a pond, in mass quantities where it displaces the oxygen in the water and kills the wild life) to anhydrous ammonia leaks... my butt hole still puckers up anytime we get a HazMat call with my vol fire department. and now I am looking at driving those very trucks, ironic.... lol.

I always figured those jobs must pay an enormous amount of money, such risk and conditions.

Thanks for the information and input. If I get an interview, will just have to go and see if I can see if I can get a demonstration.
