Hey all, am a new tanker hauler looking forward (NOT!) to the first winter fest. Have been driving for awhile, but until this year it's been... run to/from shipping/receiving office then wait in the warm truck while being loaded/offloaded. Understand it'll be a little different with tanks...i.e. while you monitor loading & offloading. So my question is what do you experienced guys wear for cold weather? I've already been to Northern Alberta (Edmonton) so I know it'll have to be something that has to stand up to that. Whats your preferences....thermal overalls, UnderArmour or good old fashioned long johns under your regular overalls, snowsuits? Will probably be picking up new insulated boots...mine are the low rise hikers & probably not good enough for what's to come. And a good pair of gloves. Just looking for preferences....what do you guys like, what works best. Thanks.

I just turn my hat around backwards just like Sly in Over The Top. Only got sick like 15 times last winter... soooo... pretty sure it works. If not, I guess buy some warm clothes. But, try the hat thing first.

Well if you've been to Edmonton in January you understand what cold dark days are all about, I work outside doing pipeline maintenance as part of what my company does so we have to wear fire retardant work wear as an outside shell. Because we are often in and out of the truck once we get on site I prefer to wear 2 PC Helly Hansen Long johns they are poly mix so unlike cotton it does not soak up sweat and get cold, heavy long sleeve shirt no buttons they hold the heat better, and poly mix hoody, insulated boots with removable liners (lighter is better, 3M or Gortex material), Gortex socks, gloves or mittens are a personal preference, I like 2 pair of heavy gloves, I wear one pair and keep the other pair on the heater vent in the truck (truck never gets shut off) when my hands start to get cold I swap them out, I have to wear a hard hat so I run a winter liner in it and a Kevlar liner that covers my head and neck . If I'm working in -25 or colder I have "bunker gear" Fire Retardant pants and jacket that are Multi layered and used by lots of fire departments for cold weather.

Found Carhartt's "Yukon" series coveralls. Looks like it might do the trick.

Believe it or not, an acid suit works incredibly well. I unloaded in East Chicago IN last winter during a pretty heavy snowstorm wearing blue jeans, a hoodie, and my acid suit and I was sweating before I was done.

Sweating is not a good thing eventually that sweat will make you very cold, but in a pinch I guess.

Believe me when I say I didn't want to be wearing the acid suit. What I was delivering wasn't even hazardous, but the plant required the suid because "omg chemicals!"

Fwiw I carry and regularly wear a carhartt jacket, hoodie, a flannel shirt, gloves, and a hat. I also carry but haven't yet needed insulated pants, heavy wool socks, long johns, wnd a ski mask. I imagine it'd have to get extremely cold for me to need to wear all of it, but I do go up into Canada fairly often.

I just wear cowboy boots and a speedo, granted I like a lot of attention though.
