    Hello all,

Recently moved to Houston and will be attending school soon for the cdl. Originally I was going to do this out of Corpus Christi, but some events have changed.

Coastal Transport out of Corpus hired cdl school grads, does anyone know if the Coastal Houston hires cdl grads? I've always had my eye on them but their site specifically states 8 months experience. If I have to I will do 8 months at a place like tmc for experience but would ultimately like to end up there. I'm married with 2 little ones so being home is definitely number one.

    Thanks!

Can't speak for Houston but I interviewed with Coastal in Austin. Eight months was required experience. Mission Petroleum requires one year. There is no ~close enough. Likely the insurance company doing the hiring.

And coastal is really famous for rolling trucks over in the Houston San Antonio areas too... On top of that their equipment is Junk... I would get experience then look at loves & sun coast...those are the two best local fuel co's...besides jam transport

Before you know it, the insurance company will have their own people inside the trucking companies doing the hiring and firing of truck drivers.

I went ahead and emailed hr and it looks like they do take cdl school grads.

Anyone have any idea of realistic first year pay at a tanker company such as this? I'm also looking at Gopetro, Gemini, and Pilot.

Not sure about Coastal down there. In DFW they are one of the lower paying companies along with Groendyke, Durpe, KAG. UPT, Loves, JAM, Douglas pay the best. They do some work for Energy Dispatch when needed. Mostly older Shakers of all colors and condition. But if they will train you and you don't mess up you can move on soon. Go slow. Do it right. Good luck.

In Houston you are looking at CTL, Service Transport and Schneider. CTL is the only company with local jobs for new CDL's.

Anyone have any realistic numbers for local fuel hauling? I've read about their percent of pay but what does that real equate to? 35-40k 45-50k? A manager a long time ago told me drivers were starting around 1700/two weeks...does this sound realistic...that looks like 44200 per year?

    Thanks!

I interviewed with them, said they pay .80 for loaded miles and hourly when not loaded. Said drivers make anywhere from 1800-2800 every two weeks. Sounds like a good company starting out. Hope this helps you out.
