I plan on hauling aggregate and there are a few trucks I am interested in but they don't have the coal chute to release excess weight before getting on the highway---IS THIS A MUST HAVE

    thanks

I guess you could shoot the coal of it somehow with some kind of device.

Hi uh, well, I hauled a lot in dump trucks, many of which didn't have the little door in the tailgate. Many times, the material isn't against the tailgate anyway, especially on a tri or quad axle, so raising the box to dump some off causes the load to shift to the back, putting you way over on the rear axles. What I did, was raise the box so the gate would open a little, BEFORE the load slid, and kicked it off. Getting legal, weight wise, is probably the biggest hassle in dump trucking. Good luck.

What semi said and, a high percentage of gravel pits these days have loaders with scales on them. They usually can dial a load in by 1/2 ton. We use our coal chutes on our trucks at work but only to feed our belt truck.

    Dump trucks run legal?
    :biggrin_25523:

Loader scales usually do pretty well at the pits, on job sites though it's the non-stop of playing Kentucky windage with the operators (the ones that care).
