It was my experience that the 90% rule never existed in Wisconsin and the UP... it sucked, was nerve wracking and that was one of the main things that caused my exit from hauling gas.. I may have an argument.. but I get sick of having the same argument every day.

OK, now I have another (probably stupid) question here. I have heard that it is not a good idea to be fueling at the same time the station's tanks are being filled, because of sediment being kicked up off the bottom of the tank. Is there any truth to this, or is it more "internet intelligence?"

No there's filters on the pumps so there's no sediment going into your while fueling up.

    Big Don Thanks this.

Hi Big Don, I was always more worried about water in the underground tank, being stirred up by a load of fuel being dropped. When I worked at a gas station, when we'd "stick" the tanks, we'd put this goop from a tube on the stick, and it would turn purple when it hit water, and sometimes there would be an inch or so of water in the bottom of the tank. Diesel seems to be worse, and when I had my truck, I'd get fuel somewhere a tanker was making a drop, only to have the engine sputter later, and half my fuel filter was water, so I never did that again. (fuel where a tanker was)

Water in gas station tanks doesn't play well with ethanol .....it causes the separation of the two. So the water gets delt with pretty quickly.....

ulsd tanks .... That's another story.

It was gas he spilt. Our trailers flow at around 8 gallons per second. If he pulled the lever and just walked away to do paperwork it could have been that much.

There are filters on the pumps, no need to worry. People ask me all the time if it's safe to get gas while I'm dropping, I tell them yes. I Googled it and it seems it was bad to get gas while a delivery was happening back in the 80s or so, but these days I wouldn't worry.
Out of 20 or so trucks, we only have about 5 that are pump trucks.

Yeah we have water paste, very nasty stuff, that we put on our sticks to see if it turns bright red. If we find more than an inch of water we let dispatch know. It gets taken care of pretty quickly

I've only seen videos on YouTube about a girlfriend who put gas in her boyfriends brand new diesel truck.
