Fuel. Cleaner, easier, usually less wait and better pay. I did both. Hated chemicals. Hauled JP8 and Avgas, then chemicals. Now I'm back to fuel and I'm not giving it up.

I made decent money doing both.. I would prefer the chemicals for the reasons already mentioned.. Gas to me is just a nightmare of compartments, blends and customers who had no care in the world that they couldn't seem to ever order properly. Chemicals were a one shot deal.. and the customers were usually a lot better in the ordering department. I hauled formaldehyde and formaldehyde based adhesives (Urea).. Smooth bore VS baffled tankers is also something that made chemicals a little weirder that gas/fuel.

Never hauled gas, but it seems like a PITA. So many tiny little stations you have to get in and out of with cars zipping around just begging for you to hit them.

Fuel. More predictable schedule. I like pocketed tanks. I hauled Chems from Western Ma.to Northern Me. Lots of up and down and banging around. Hauling 4k gallons of Titanium dioxide in a 12k trailer is no fun

Did both. Fuel for 6 yrs, chemicals for 2 as an O/O, OTR. Both good gigs.,
the one thing as far as I was concerned was that the racks in Austin were very strict and one small mistake could land you in a heap of trouble. Many times you would get locked out for a few days. Other racks are a bit more lenient. Otherwise it's a good job. Some gas stations can be a nightmare. I've even experienced stupid 4-wheelers deliberately run over my hoses just for kicks or they would try to run me over on a couple of occasions.....insane people out there.
Chemicals is just as good and pay is good too, as long as you get with the right outfit. There's more pump offs with chemicals

Gas tends to be local, home every night ..... Chemicals not so much.

Everything is a PIA these days.

I did both and I loved chemicals more just because it's less restrictions. Like cell phone use. Gas was cool and the work isn't hard at all but chemical work is alot less work. I've hauled with petroleum (gasoline, diesel, heating oil and bio diesel ) . On the chemical side I've hauled ( mainly acids of different grades and that stuff they call elephant snot.

when you have an accident with gas it can go BOOM! With chemical most of the time you have time to run

I had a 4wheeler drive over my vapor recovery head. another inch or 2 and she would have blown us to Kingdom come. SHe missed her catylitic converter by about an inch She was impatient with the car ahead of her and tried to squeeze around my set up I had cones out the whole 9 Nothing mattered to her
