Looking for detailed info on both companies. I'm kinda leaning towards ARG but I don't know much about Terpening, such as pay, shifts, etc. I have 18mos exp but it's all tugging a van or reefer. And I'll throw it out there that I'm torn between flatbed with TMC and hauling fuel. I know they are 2 different job types but I'm trying to weigh the positives of one to the other. I think flatbed would be a more interesting job but hauling fuel I'd be home everyday. Any and all info on these companies and others alike in my area would be greatly appreciated.

I'll also add that I have a local job making $1,300/wk gross working 6 days at 65-70 hrs/wk. Will I be able to make the same or more with fuel while only working 5 days? I know what TMC is about but kinda skeptic le on the pay for hauling fuel.

Terpening is always hiring in my area of upstate NY I see the adds pretty regular...Not sure what to make of that.
I'm pretty sure you will start out nights at least thats what the adds say that I've seen..
Never really read anything bad about either, did see a ARG thread on this site a while back maybe a quick search could find you some answers.

    good luck

Both good companies. With either one you'll likely be going to gas stations a lot, and being the new guy you'll start at night. Had a family member at Terpening for years, he did well but I don't know hard numbers. Terpening sems to have better/newer equipment (brand new T800's with a microsleeper, and brand new KW/Pete day cabs for the local guys). ARG has a lot of older-looking Macks and Volvos, but they do look reasonably well maintained.

ARG and has mostly brand new Macks with autos but I called them both today. ARG's training is 7-10weeks long at $15/hr. $18/hr after training and $21.75 after 6 months. $2,000 sign on bonus. Guys average 45-55hrs per week. She couldn't give me average numbers that the guys are making but based off those number its not very much. Terpening has training 6 weeks long, $15.25/hr mon-fri days. Then they get paid 3 different ways, by hr, mile, and drop which averages out to be $21-$22/hr. This time of year the guys are averaging 65hrs per week but in the slower season, they are averaging 55-65hrs/ wk. Average weekly pay is $1,300. I'm about 30mins from both places but I'm leaning toward Terpening just because of the pay difference.

Would you have an assigned truck at either place? How does Terp determine whether your hr/mile/drop or do you chose? Does Terp have a terminal in Roc, otherwise it's more than 30 mins to their place in Syracuse from Roc.
Im guilty of judging a book by it's cover and both Terpening's equip and drivers come across as better/nicer and more professional. Just to be clear, Ive had no negative encounters with ARG but i see alot of both companies and just the appearance of some of ARG drivers makes me briefly pause .

I'm not sure about the truck. I'm sure it's slip seating but have the same truck everyday. And Terp has trucks in rochester but I can't find any info on an address. And Terp I believe is by the hr while unloading, Mike while driving and load which is per stop. The recruiter also said there is pay differential for night shift and a "premium" paid for working weekends and a 6th day. Nor sure what premium means but he seemed kind of guarded with the info. ARG was offering me info in detail on everything I asked her.

I'd say ARG. Have you read the thread or talked to sparky on this? He currently works for ARG. He'd be able to help you out more.
