I haul fuel and I was trained to load my compartments 3200(3500), 1600(2000), 1000(1200), 2800(2800)... I know everyone loads it differently. My trainer told me to never put more than 4800 in my first 2 compartments... Today I played around with it a little and put 3100 in #1 and 1700 into #2 instead of the usual 32 and 16....and I dunno if it's just in my head but I think noticed lot better handling on the freeway and in curves..... So I'm asking all the vets what is the best way?? I know there is tankers with different compartments

Hi dextrdog, I live in Milwaukee too (but not for long). Sounds like you took a little weight off the steer axle.

Since you have the ability to choose compartments/loading, do you load differently in the winter, like making sure your rear compartment gets weight for traction?

First 2 on my truck is 3875 and 1975. Depending on temperature. Everyone's setup is different, semis and T&Ts are different, and since your company will want to maximize revenue per load, they should have already scaled out their trucks to see what their maximum capacity is.

The only way you'll know for sure is load it up and scale it. We had a small truck like that so we could run AZ once in awhile. But it was a truck and trailer so we loaded completely different than semi's. The last time we run semi's is when the east coast shut down for us and they moved the better one out west. A semi is just too much waste for us. You can count on running lighter on your steers since you shifted 100 gallons. What would be your advantage of doing that? Is it because of product selection or your handling of the truck? You're grossing 8600 and we could gross 9000 with the truck and trailer. But like I said the only way you'll know for sure is fuel your truck to the max, load the way you want to then weigh the truck with you in it. If your doing it for handling reasons I'd say load back your 100 gallons on your first compartment then shift 100 gallons to your last. Sorry I couldn't be much help.

    We have 5 compartments
    3100, 1200, 1100, 1000, 2800.

I usually load however I need to but I don't go over scales very often. I usually like to keep weight on the front end since I don't deal with snow or ice so traction on the trailer wheels isn't a big deal.

I'd say load it how it feels right for you and what you're comfortable with

If gas weighs 7 pounds per gallon that's over 60,000 pounds right?
