Never heard of live bottoms used for gravel or ac work. Mostly always bottom dumps or end dumps. If its a really tight space then transfers or superdumps or super 10s. The trailer in that link looks more like a framed end dump to me but i could be wrong.

I could see them being used for gravel, like your picture shows, but asphalt would pose a bigger problem, as the trailer couldn't be used for much else, as a lot of asphalt would stick to the sides or the conveyor system. Without fuel oil, which used to be used to facilitate clean removal of the asphalt, but now is a huge EPA no-no, I think it would clog up the conveyor. Probably not the best idea.

They use them for both all the time in my area. They are usually a v bottom with a belt around 48" wide.

iv seen that type of trailer used for hot mix, never seen one hauling gravel though. when i think of using something like that for hot mix seems like it would be a mess. they also seem to be the worst for blowing you your windshields. when i see belt trailers like that hauling asphalt i always try to keep my distance.

Hi special-k, I could see them being used for asphalt and gravel, but I don't think you could haul potatoes or grain after asphalt.

Manatt's in my area use them almost exclusively: http://www.manatts.com/ They been around a long time.

At first I thought you meant "walking floor" like I've seen used in waste disposal. Those are pretty cool.

Indian valley carriers has one they use for sand, stone, salt i never pulled one so i dont know the advantage over a end dump except maybe where there is a height problem.

The advantage is, you don't have to drive over the load, and can lay it in a row like a belly dump to make it easier for the maintainer/grader to spread evenly on a surveyed grade.
